Hazrat Aslam (rahimahullah), the slave of Hazrat ‘Umar (radhiyallahu ‘anhu), reports that Hazrat ‘Umar (radhiyallahu ‘anhu) had nine special platters reserved for sending gifts to the Azwaaj-e-Mutahharaat (respected wives of Rasulullah (sallallahu ‘alaihi wasallam) and mothers of the ummah).
Hazrat Aslam (rahimahullah) mentioned that whenever any delicacy, fruit or meat would come to Hazrat ‘Umar (radhiyallahu ‘anhu), then he would make nine shares, place them on the nine platters and respectfully send them to the Azwaaj-e-Mutahharaat. He would first send the platters to the other Azwaaj-e-Mutahharaat and would send the platter of his beloved daughter, Hazrat Hafsah (radhiyallahu ‘anha), last. At times, if there was a slight shortage in any platter, he would send this platter to his beloved daughter, Hazrat Hafsah (radhiyallahu ‘anha), and ensure that the other wives of Rasulullah (sallallahu ‘alaihi wasallam) received the full platters.
In this way, Hazrat ‘Umar (radhiyallahu ‘anhu) honoured the family of Rasulullah (sallallahu ‘alaihi wasallam) by giving them the gifts that he received from people, and he gave preference to the other wives of Rasulullah (sallallahu ‘alaihi wasallam) over his beloved daughter and family.
