The Love of the Sahaabah (radhiyallahu ‘anhum) for the Ahl-e-Bayt

The Sahaabah (radhiyallahu ‘anhum) enjoyed the greatest relationship of brotherhood of Islam among themselves. The deep-rooted love, affection and concern that each had for the other was unprecedented in the annals of Islam. Over and above this relationship, the relationship that the Sahaabah (radhiyallahu ‘anhum) had with the Ahl-e-Bayt was one of utmost reverence, respect and love.

Generally, the Shiahs spread the misconception that the Sahaabah (radhiyallahu ‘anhum) did not have love for the Ahl-e-Bayt. However, this notion is incorrect. The compilations of Hadith are replete with narrations and incidents that reveal the strong bond and intense love which existed between the Sahaabah (radhiyallahu ‘anhum) and the Ahl-e-Bayt. We will next present various narrations to illustrate the bond of brotherhood of Islam which they enjoyed among themselves.

The love of Hazrat Abu Bakr (radhiyallahu ‘anhu) for the Ahl-e-Bayt

On one occasion, Hazrat Abu Bakr (radhiyallahu ‘anhu) mentioned, “Maintaining ties with the family of Rasulullah (sallallahu ‘alaihi wasallam) is more beloved to me than maintaining ties with my own family.” (Saheeh Bukhaari #3712)

From this narration, it is clear that Hazrat Abu Bakr (radhiyallahu ‘anhu) loved the Ahl-e-Bayt more than he loved his own family. This was on account of the Ahl-e-Bayt being the blessed family of Rasulullah (sallallahu ‘alaihi wasallam). Hence, it is absolutely incorrect for one to think that Hazrat Abu Bakr (radhiyallahu ‘anhu) did not have love for the Ahl-e-Bayt.
