Occupation in Trade and the Title Al-Ameen

The people (of Makkah Mukarramah) would explain that Rasulullah (sallallahu ‘alaihi wasallam) grew up as the most dignified of his people, the one with the best character, the person who would enquire the most regarding the well being of his neighbors, the most forbearing and tolerant, the most truthful and trustworthy, and the furthest from fighting, arguing, immorality and every evil. This is why his people gave him the title of Al-Ameen (the truthful one).

Hazrat ‘Abdullah bin Abil Hamsaa (radhiyallahu ‘anhu) says, “Before the prophethood of Rasulullah (sallallahu ‘alaihi wasallam), I once engaged in a transaction with him. I owed Rasulullah (sallallahu ‘alaihi wasallam) some money, and so I promised him that I would return with it shortly. Coincidentally, after returning home, I completely forgot about my promise. Only three days later did I remember that I had promised to return with the money. The moment I remembered my promise, I went to the place where we had promised to meet and found him waiting there. All he said was, ‘You have inconvenienced me. I have been waiting here for you for the last three days.’”

Hazrat ‘Abdullah bin Saa’ib (radhiyallahu ‘anhu) says, “In the era of ignorance (pre-Islamic era), I was Rasulullah’s (sallallahu ‘alaihi wasallam) business partner. When I came to Madinah Munawwarah, he asked, ‘Do you recognize me?’ I replied, ‘Of course! You were my business partner and what an excellent partner you were. You would never procrastinate and delay nor would you argue over anything.’”

Hazrat Qays bin Saa’ib Makhzoomi (radhiyallahu ‘anhu) says, “I was Rasulullah’s (sallallahu ‘alaihi wasallam) business partner in the times of ignorance. He was the most excellent of partners. He would neither quarrel nor dispute.”
