Two Categories of People in Deen

Moulana Sayyid Abul Hasan Ali Nadwi (rahmatullahi ‘alaih) once wrote a letter to Hazrat Moulana Muhammad Ilyaas (rahmatullahi ‘alaih) in which he mentioned the following:

“Muslims can only be of two types and there is no third type. The two types of Muslims are those who personally go out and strive in the path of Allah Ta’ala, and those who do not personally go out, but they assist others to go out in the path of Allah Ta’ala.”

When Hazrat Moulana Muhammad Ilyaas (rahmatullahi ‘alaih) read this, he remarked, “Moulana has understood this and explained it very well!” Hazrat Moulana Muhammad Ilyaas (rahmatullahi ‘alaih) thereafter said, “Assisting others to go out in the path of Allah Ta’ala also includes encouraging them to go out in the path of Allah Ta’ala.” (Malfoozaat Hazrat Moulana Muhammad Ilyaas (rahmatullahi ‘alaih) pg. 37-38)
