Hazrat Bahz bin Hakeem relates from his father, who relates from his grandfather (radhiyallahu \u2018anhu): On one occasion, I asked, \u201cO Rasulullah (sallallahu \u2018alaihi wasallam), with regards to our private parts, what are the laws regarding our exposing or concealing them?\u201d Rasulullah (sallallahu \u2018alaihi wasallam) replied, \u201cSafeguard your private parts and do not expose them except before your wife or your slave women.\u201d I then asked, \u201cO Rasulullah (sallallahu \u2018alaihi wasallam), what is the law in the case where many people are living together?\u201d Rasulullah (sallallahu \u2018alaihi wasallam) replied, \u201cEnsure that you do not expose your private parts before anyone.\u201d I then asked, \u201cO Rasulullah (sallallahu \u2018alaihi wasallam), what is the law in the case where a person is alone (can he undress and become completely naked)?\u201d Rasulullah (sallallahu \u2018alaihi wasallam) replied, \u201cAllah Ta\u2018ala is more worthy than the people that you show shame and modesty before Him.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n

2. Keep your clothing in a neat and tidy manner by folding it or hanging it in a cupboard. Do not keep your clothing lying around in an untidy condition. Place dirty clothing in the place that is designated for such clothing e.g. in the laundry basket, etc.<\/p>\n

Hazrat Sa\u2019eed bin Musayyib (rahimahullah) is reported to have said, \u201cCertainly Allah Ta\u2018ala is pure and He loves purity. Allah Ta\u2018ala is clean and loves cleanliness. Allah Ta\u2018ala is kind and loves kindness. Allah Ta\u2018ala is generous and loves generosity. Hence, keep the courtyards of your homes clean and do not resemble the Jews (in their untidiness).\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n

3. When your clothing becomes soiled or messed while wearing it, then you should wash it and continue wearing it, or you should change your clothing.<\/p>\n

Hazrat Jaabir (radhiyallahu \u2018anhu) reports: On one occasion, Rasulullah (sallallahu \u2018alaihi wasallam) came to visit us at our home. He saw a man with dishevelled and unkempt hair, and said, \u201cDoes this person not have anything with which he can keep his hair tidy?\u201d And he saw a person with dirty clothing, and said, \u201cDoes this person not have anything with which he can wash his clothing?\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n

4. Men are only allowed to wear rings made from silver. They are not allowed to wear rings made of any substance besides silver. When wearing a silver ring, they should ensure that the amount of silver does not exceed one mithqaal (4.374 g). Men are only allowed to wear one ring. The ring should be worn on the small finger. If the ring has a stone on it, then the stone of the ring should face inwards (i.e. it should be towards the palm). Apart from a silver ring, men are not allowed to wear any other jewellery (e.g. bracelets, chains, earrings, etc.).[4]<\/sup><\/p>\n

Hazrat Buraidah (radhiyallahu \u2018anhu)<\/em>\u00a0reports that on one occasion, a Sahaabi came to Rasulullah (sallallahu \u2018alaihi wasallam)<\/em> while wearing a ring made from brass. Rasulullah (sallallahu \u2018alaihi wasallam) <\/em>said to him, \u201cWhy is it that I perceive the smell of idols from you (as idols used to be made from brass at that time)?\u201d The Sahaabi immediately removed the ring and threw it away. Thereafter, the Sahaabi came once again while wearing a ring made from iron. Rasulullah (sallallahu \u2018alaihi wasallam)<\/em> said to him, \u201cWhy is it that I see the jewellery of the people of Jahannum on you (as the people in Jahannum will be shackled in irons of fire)?\u201d The Sahaabi immediately removed the ring and threw it away. He thereafter asked, \u201cO Rasulullah (sallallahu \u2018alaihi wasallam)<\/em>, which type of ring should I wear?\u201d Rasulullah (sallallahu \u2018alaihi wasallam)<\/em>\u00a0replied, \u201cWear a silver ring, and ensure that the amount of the silver in it does not exceed one mithqaal.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n

5. Women are permitted to wear rings made from silver and gold. They are not allowed to wear rings made of any other substance besides silver and gold (e.g. platinum, plastic, etc.). Apart from rings, women are allowed to wear all types of jewellery (e.g. bangles, necklaces, etc.), whether gold, silver, platinum, imitation, etc.[5]<\/sup><\/p>\n
