A:<\/strong>\u00a0It is permissible to use zakaat funds to feed the poor provided the requirement of tamleek is found. Tamleek means to transfer ownership of the wealth to a recipient of zakaat. Therefore, if the poor are given the zakaat hampers, the zakaat will be discharged. If the poor are not given the zakaat hampers but are merely invited for a meal and allowed to partake of it, then zakaat will not be discharged since the requirement of tamleek is not found. Similar is the case regarding the iftaar food during the month of Ramadhaan. If the poor are given the iftaar hampers, the zakaat will be discharged. If the poor are not given the iftaar hampers but are merely invited to partake of food provided, then the zakaat will not be discharged since the requirement of tamleek is not found.<\/p>\n
