Hazrat Abu Hurairah (radhiyallahu \u2018anhu) reports that Hazrat Rasulullah (sallallahu \u2018alaihi wasallam) never found fault with the food. If he desired eating it, he ate it, and if he was not inclined towards eating it, he left it (without finding fault with it).<\/em><\/p>\n

Hazrat Asmaa bint Abi Bakr (radhiyallahu \u2018anha) relates that whenever she was given thareed (a type of food dish), she would instruct that it be covered until the heat subsided slightly (and eating it became manageable). She would say, \u201cI heard Rasulullah (sallallahu \u2018alaihi wasallam) saying that it (consuming food that is not extremely hot) is a greater source of blessings.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n

3. Refrain from wastage and extravagance in food and drink.[3]<\/sup><\/p>\n

Allah Ta\u2018ala says in the Quraan Majeed, \u201cEat and drink, and do not be extravagant, surely He (Allah Ta\u2018ala) does not like those who are extravagant.<\/em>[4]<\/sup><\/p>\n

Hazrat Abdullah bin Amr bin Aas (radhiyallahu \u2018anhuma) reports that Hazrat Rasulullah (sallallahu \u2018alaihi wasallam) said, \u201cEat, drink and spend in charity, so long as there is no extravagance or pride.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n

Hazrat Miqdaam (radhiyallahu \u2018anhu) reports that Hazrat Rasulullah (sallallahu \u2018alaihi wasallam) said, \u201cThere is no utensil that one can fill that is worse than the stomach. A few morsels of food that allow the back to remain straight (and enable one to continue fulfilling the worship of Allah Ta\u2018ala) are sufficient for a person. However, if a person\u2019s desire to consume food overpowers him, then one third (of the stomach) should be for food, one third for drink and one third for air.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n

5. Before going to the musjid to perform salaah, do not eat food which leaves an offensive odour in the mouth.[6]<\/sup><\/p>\n

Hazrat Ummu Salamah (radhiyallahu \u2018anha) reports that Hazrat Rasulullah (sallallahu \u2018alaihi wasallam) said, \u201cThe one who consumes from a gold or silver utensil is in reality taking down into his stomach the fire of Jahannum.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n

7. The young should allow the old and senior people (Ulama, etc.) among them to commence eating first.[8]<\/sup><\/p>\n

Hazrat Huzaifah (radhiyallahu \u2018anhu) mentioned, \u201cWhenever we ate with Rasulullah (sallallahu \u2018alaihi wasallam), we would always commence eating after Rasulullah (sallallahu \u2018alaihi wasallam) began eating.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n

8. If you are invited to eat a meal at someone\u2019s house and you know that all his income is haraam, or the majority of his income is from haraam, then refrain from accepting the invitation by politely excusing yourself.[9]<\/sup><\/p>\n

9. Eating together is better than eating individually.[10]<\/sup><\/p>\n
