{"id":307,"date":"2011-02-15T17:23:23","date_gmt":"2011-02-15T15:23:23","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/ihyaauddeen.co.za\/?p=307"},"modified":"2025-01-21T15:02:22","modified_gmt":"2025-01-21T13:02:22","slug":"what-is-wrong-if-one-refers-to-the-quran-and-hadith-directly","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/ihyaauddeen.co.za\/?p=307","title":{"rendered":"What is wrong if one Refers to the Qur&#8217;an and Hadith Directly?"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">If one who is not a mujtahid refers to the Qur\u2019an and Hadith directly in order to extract <em>shar\u2019ee<\/em> laws and find solutions to his problems, he will land himself in clear disaster and encounter many difficulties. It is akin to an ignorant layman trying to find a solution to legal or medical issues by directly referring to the sources. He is bound to misunderstand many fundamental issues and bring great disaster upon himself. Let us examine some of the problems he will encounter:<\/p>\n<h4><strong>The First Problem<\/strong><\/h4>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The first problem is that some people will begin to consider themselves as <em>mujtahids<\/em>. They will refer to translations of the Qur\u2019aan and the books of <em>Hadith<\/em> (such as the translations of Saheeh Bukhaari, Saheeh Muslim, etc,).\u00a0 Subsequently, they will arrive at their own incorrect conclusions. This is undoubtedly detrimental not only to their own <em>Deen,<\/em> but also equally destructive to the <em>Deen<\/em> of the general public. Nabi <em>(Sallallahu Alayhi Wasallam)<\/em> foretold the coming of such crucial times where people will confine the truth to their own logic and they will shun all emulation of the pious predecessors. Hence, he is reported to have said that from amongst the signs of <em>Qiyaamah<\/em>:<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">\u0625\u0630\u0627 \u0631\u0623\u064a\u062a \u0634\u062d\u0627 \u0645\u0637\u0627\u0639\u0627 \u0648\u0647\u0648\u0649 \u0645\u062a\u0628\u0639\u0627 \u0648\u062f\u0646\u064a\u0627 \u0645\u0624\u062b\u0631\u0629 \u0648\u0625\u0639\u062c\u0627\u0628 \u0643\u0644 \u0630\u064a \u0631\u0623\u064a \u0628\u0631\u0623\u064a\u0647<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><em>You will witness people fulfilling their greed, following their base desires, giving preference to dunya over deen and being satisfied with their own reasoning and understanding. (Mishkaat Pg. 437)<\/em><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">\u0648\u0627\u0639\u062c\u0627\u0628 \u0627\u0644\u0645\u0631\u0621 \u0628\u0646\u0641\u0633\u0647 \u0648\u0647\u064a \u0623\u0634\u062f\u0647\u0646<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><em>A person will be satisfied and pleased with his independent reasoning and understanding. (Mishkaat Pg. 434)<\/em><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Nabi <em>(Sallallahu Alayhi Wasallam)<\/em> has also mentioned that from amongst the signs of <em>Qiyaamah<\/em> is:<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">\u0648\u0644\u0639\u0646 \u0622\u062e\u0631 \u0647\u0630\u0647 \u0627\u0644\u0623\u0645\u0629 \u0623\u0648\u0644\u0647\u0627<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><em>The latter of this ummat will curse the former. (Mishkaat Pg. 470)<\/em><em> <\/em><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Consider the following two incidents which reveal the outcome of the one who is not a <em>mujtahid<\/em> but, refers directly to the Qur\u2019an and <em>Hadith<\/em>. The following two incidents are narrated by Allamah Kowthari <em>(Rahimahullah)<\/em>. He says:<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\u201cA person was accustomed to performing <em>Salaat-ul-Witr<\/em> after making <em>istinja<\/em> (cleaning himself after urinating). When asked about it, he quoted the <em>Hadith<\/em>:<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">\u0645\u0646 \u0627\u0633\u062a\u062c\u0645\u0631 \u0641\u0644\u064a\u0648\u062a\u0631<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><em>He who uses mud pebbles for istinja should \u201cperform witr\u201d<\/em> <em>(Mishkaat Pg. 42)<\/em><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Since the same verb \u0641\u0644\u064a\u0648\u062a\u0631 which is used for Salaat-ul-Witr is also used for \u2018doing something in an odd number\u2019, the person misunderstood this <em>Hadith<\/em> to be referring to witr Salaah. The correct meaning of this <em>Hadith<\/em> is that, he who uses mud pebbles for <em>istinja<\/em>, should use an odd number.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Another person declared that it was forbidden to water one\u2019s neighbour\u2019s garden. He substantiated it by quoting the following <em>Hadith<\/em>:<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">\u0644\u0627 \u064a\u062d\u0644 \u0644\u0627\u0645\u0631\u0626 \u064a\u0624\u0645\u0646 \u0628\u0627\u0644\u0644\u0647 \u0648\u0627\u0644\u064a\u0648\u0645 \u0627\u0644\u0622\u062e\u0631 \u0623\u0646 \u064a\u0633\u0642\u064a \u0645\u0627\u0621\u0647 \u0632\u0631\u0639 \u063a\u064a\u0631\u0647<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><em>It is not permitted for one who believes in Allah and the last day to irrigate someone else\u2019s crop with his own water. (Mishkaat Pg. 290)<\/em><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The <em>Hadith<\/em> actually implies that, if someone acquired a pregnant slave woman (when slavery was still in practise), then he is prohibited from copulating with her until she gives birth.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><strong><em><br \/>\n<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>If one who is not a mujtahid refers to the Qur\u2019an and Hadith directly in order to extract shar\u2019ee laws and find solutions to his problems, he will land himself in clear disaster and encounter many difficulties.
