During the period after Rasulullah (sallallahu \u2018alaihi wasallam) returned from Taa\u2019if, Hazrat Tufail bin \u2018Amr Dowsi came to Makkah Mukarramah. At this time, Rasulullah (sallallahu \u2018alaihi wasallam) was engaged in inviting people to Islam.<\/p>\n
Hazrat Tufail (radhiyallahu \u2018anhu) was a person of noble lineage. Furthermore, he was a renowned poet, he was extremely wise and intelligent, and he would show great hospitality towards his guests. He was also an ally of the Quraish.<\/p>\n
When Hazrat Tufail (radhiyallahu \u2018anhu) came to Makkah Mukarramah, then a few people of the Quraish came to him and said, \u201cA person has appeared among us who has created discord and disunity among the people. His speech contains the effect of sorcery, to the extent that it causes relationships to break between father and son, between brothers, and between husband and wife. We urge you to remain far from him, as we fear that you and your people may be afflicted by this calamity. As far as possible, refrain from listening to anything that he says.\u201d<\/p>\n
The Quraish warned Hazrat Tufail (radhiyallahu \u2018anhu) to such an extent that Hazrat Tufail (radhiyallahu \u2018anhu) even stuffed a piece of cloth into his ears to seal them, so that the words of Rasulullah (sallallahu \u2018alaihi wasallam) could not even enter his ears by mistake. As a result of Hazrat Tufail (radhiyallahu \u2018anhu) stuffing his ears with cotton, the people began to refer to him as \u201cZul Qutnatain\u201d (the person with two pieces of cotton).<\/p>\n
