Hazrat Aa\u2019ishah (radhiyallahu \u2018anha) reports:<\/p>\n
I once asked Rasulullah (sallallahu \u2018alaihi wasallam), \u201cO Rasul of Allah (sallallahu \u2018alaihi wasallam)! Did you ever encounter a day that was more difficult than the day of Uhud?\u201d<\/p>\n
Rasulullah (sallallahu \u2018alaihi wasallam) replied, \u201cAll the trials I suffered from your people were severe and difficult. However, the most difficult day that I endured was the day when I presented myself before the son of \u2018Abd Yaaleel (at Taa\u2019if). He did not accept my message, and I departed from there in a state of extreme grief and sorrow.<\/p>\n
\u201cWhen I came to the place known as Qarn Tha\u2018aalib, I felt slight relief. Thereafter, as I raised my head, I saw that a cloud was sheltering me, and Hazrat Jibreel (\u2018alaihis salaam) was in this cloud. Hazrat Jibreel (\u2018alaihis salaam) called out to me from the cloud saying, \u201cAllah Ta\u2018ala has heard the response which your people have given you. Allah Ta\u2018ala has now sent the angel in charge of the mountains to you so that you may instruct him as you wish.\u201d<\/p>\n
\u201cThe angel in charge of the mountains then called out to me and greeted me with salaam. He said to me, \u201cO Muhammed (sallallahu \u2018alaihi wasallam)! Allah Ta\u2018ala has sent me to you! I am the angel in charge of the mountains! All the mountains are under my control. You may command me as you wish. If you command, I will make these two mountains (between which the people of Makkah and Taa\u2019if were living) collide, due to which all these people will be crushed.\u201d\u201d<\/p>\n
Rasulullah (sallallahu \u2018alaihi wasallam) replied, \u201cNo (I do not want you to destroy these people)! It is my hope that Allah Ta\u2018ala will create from their progeny such people who will worship Him alone, without ascribing any partner to Him.\u201d<\/p>\n
Note: Despite the merciless suffering that Rasulullah (sallallahu \u2018alaihi wasallam) was subjected to, he did not make du\u2018aa for these people to be destroyed, as it was his hope that even if they do not accept Islam, perhaps some of their descendants will accept Islam and be obedient, sincere and devoted to Allah Ta\u2018ala.<\/p>\n
