\u2018Utbah bin Rabee\u2018ah and Shaibah bin Rabee\u2018ah had hearts that were harder than stone (as they were staunch enemies of Rasulullah (sallallahu \u2018alaihi wasallam) and Islam). However, when they saw Rasulullah (sallallahu \u2018alaihi wasallam) seated beneath the tree in their orchard, in a state of helplessness and having suffered oppression, then even their hearts became soft, and they were overcome by feelings of kinship to their relative and person of their clan, the Quraish.<\/p>\n
They summoned their slave, \u2018Addaas, and said, \u201cPlace some grapes on a platter and take it to that man (referring to Rasulullah (sallallahu \u2018alaihi wasallam)). Request him to please partake of the grapes.\u201d Accordingly, \u2018Addaas presented the platter of grapes to Rasulullah (sallallahu \u2018alaihi wasallam).<\/p>\n
Rasulullah (sallallahu \u2018alaihi wasallam) then recited bismillah and commenced eating the grapes. When \u2018Addaas heard Rasulullah (sallallahu \u2018alaihi wasallam) take the name of Allah Ta\u2018ala, he exclaimed, \u201cBy Allah! No person in this city speaks words such as these!\u201d Rasulullah (sallallahu \u2018alaihi wasallam) then asked \u2018Addaas, \u201cWhich city are you from, and what religion do you follow?\u201d \u2018Addaas replied, \u201cI come from the city Neenway and I follow the Christian religion.\u201d<\/p>\n
Rasulullah (sallallahu \u2018alaihi wasallam) asked, \u201cAre you from the same city of Neenway in which the pious servant of Allah Ta\u2018ala, Nabi Yunus bin Mattaa (\u2018alaihis salaam), used to reside?\u201d \u2018Addaas was quite surprised and asked Rasulullah (sallallahu \u2018alaihi wasallam), \u201cWhat do you know of Nabi Yunus bin Mattaa (\u2018alaihis salaam)?\u201d Rasulullah (sallallahu \u2018alaihi wasallam) responded, \u201cHe was my brother, a prophet of Allah Ta\u2018ala, and I am also a prophet of Allah Ta\u2018ala.\u201d<\/p>\n
Hearing this, \u2018Addaas immediately kissed the blessed feet, hands and forehead of Rasulullah (sallallahu \u2018alaihi wasallam) and accepted Islam testifying, \u201cI bear witness that you are the servant and Rasul of Allah Ta\u2018ala!\u201d When \u2018Addaas thereafter returned to \u2018Utbah and Shaibah, they asked him, \u201cWhy did you kiss the hands and feet of that man? Be careful that he does not cause you to leave your religion! Remember that your religion is better than his religion.\u201d<\/p>\n
Hazrat Hakeem bin Hizaam (radhiyallahu \u2018anhu) reports that when \u2018Utbah and Shaibah were preparing to march to Badr with the Quraish of Makkah, then \u2018Addaas held onto their feet and pleaded with them saying, \u201cBy Allah! He is the Rasul of Allah (sallallahu \u2018alaihi wasallam)! These people are being taken to their death!\u201d<\/p>\n
Thereafter, as \u2018Addaas sat and wept, \u2018Aas bin Shaibah passed by. When he asked \u2018Addaas why he was weeping, \u2018Addaas replied, \u201cI am weeping for my two masters who are now going out in opposition of the Rasul of Allah (sallallahu \u2018alaihi wasallam).\u201d \u2018Aas bin Waa\u2019il asked, \u201cIs he really the Rasul of Allah?\u201d \u2018Addaas said, \u201cYes, most certainly! By Allah, he has been sent as the Rasul of Allah to the entire world.\u201d<\/p>\n
