Hazrat \u2018Abbaas (radhiyallahu \u2018anhu) reports, \u201cI once asked Rasulullah (sallallahu \u2018alaihi wasallam), \u2018O Rasul of Allah (sallallahu \u2018alaihi wasallam)! Did you benefit your uncle, Abu Taalib, in any way? After all, he would protect you and assist you.\u2019 Rasulullah (sallallahu \u2018alaihi wasallam) replied, \u2018The fire of Jahannum burns him up to his ankles. If I did not intercede for him, he would have been in the depths of the fire.\u2019\u201d<\/p>\n
Note: \u2018Allaamah Suhaili (rahimahullah) mentions, \u201cAbu Taalib, from head to foot, was fully immersed in assisting and protecting Rasulullah (sallallahu \u2018alaihi wasallam). It was only his feet that remained on the creed of \u2018Abdul Muttalib, instead of coming onto Islam. It is for this reason that his feet were subjected to punishment in Jahannum.<\/p>\n

(Surah Baqarah v. 250)<\/em><\/p>\n Hazrat \u2018Ali (radhiyallahu \u2018anhu) reports, \u201cWhen Abu Taalib passed away, I came to Rasulullah (sallallahu \u2018alaihi wasallam) and said, \u2018O Rasul of Allah (sallallahu \u2018alaihi wasallam)! Your uncle, who was on misguidance, has passed away.\u2019 Rasulullah (sallallahu \u2018alaihi wasallam) responded, \u2018Go and bury him, and thereafter return.\u2019 I enquired, \u2018He passed away as a disbeliever (so should I still bury him?)\u2019 Rasulullah (sallallahu \u2018alaihi wasallam) replied, \u2018Yes, go and bury him and then return.\u2019\u201d<\/p>\n According to one narration, when Hazrat \u2018Ali (radhiyallahu \u2018anhu) came to Rasulullah (sallallahu \u2018alaihi wasallam) after burying Abu Taalib, then Rasulullah (sallallahu \u2018alaihi wasallam) instructed him to make ghusl.
