Hazrat Ja\u2019far (radhiyallahu \u2018anhu) said to Najaashi, \u201cI wish to ask these people (the representatives of the Quraish) a few questions. Please request them to answer my questions.\u201d<\/p>\n
The first question which Hazrat Ja\u2019far (radhiyallahu \u2018anhu) asked was, \u201cAre we slaves who have come here fleeing from our masters? If we are runaway slaves, then indeed we deserve to be returned to our masters.\u201d<\/p>\n
Najaashi addressed \u2018Amr bin \u2018Aas and asked, \u201cAre these people slaves?\u201d He replied:<\/p>\n
\u0628\u0644 \u0623\u062d\u0631\u0627\u0631 \u0643\u0631\u0627\u0645<\/p>\n
No! Rather, they are free and noble people.<\/em><\/p>\n Hazrat Ja\u2019far (radhiyallahu \u2018anhu) then requested Najaashi to ask the second question saying, \u201cAsk them whether we have fled after murdering someone. If we have come here after killing someone unjustly, then without any hesitation, you should hand us over to the family of the victim.\u201d<\/p>\n Najaashi addressed \u2018Amr bin \u2018Aas and asked:<\/p>\n \u0647\u0644 \u0623\u0647\u0631\u0642\u0648\u0627 \u062f\u0645\u0627 \u0628\u063a\u064a\u0631 \u062d\u0642\u0647<\/p>\n Are these people guilty of shedding any person\u2019s blood unjustly?<\/em><\/p>\n \u2018Amr bin \u2018Aas replied:<\/p>\n \u0644\u0627 \u0642\u0637\u0631\u0629 \u0645\u0646 \u062f\u0645<\/p>\n No! They have not shed even a drop of blood.<\/em><\/p>\n Hazrat Ja\u2019far (radhiyallahu \u2018anhu) then requested Najaashi to place the third question before them asking \u201cHave we fled after usurping someone\u2019s wealth? If we are guilty of usurping someone\u2019s wealth then we are prepared to pay back the money.\u201d<\/p>\n Najaashi addressed \u2018Amr bin \u2018Aas saying, \u201cIf these people have fled after usurping someone\u2019s wealth, then I am accountable and answerable for it, and I stand as guarantor to repay it.\u201d \u2018Amr bin \u2018Aas replied:<\/p>\n \u0648\u0644\u0627 \u0642\u064a\u0631\u0627\u0637<\/p>\n They have not usurped even a single qeeraat (one-twelfth of a dirham)<\/em><\/p>\n Najaashi then asked the representatives of the Quraish, \u201cIn that case, what do you want?\u201d \u2018Amr bin \u2018Aas replied, \u201cAll of us were following the same religion. It was a religion wherein we rejected Allah Ta\u2018ala and worshipped stones. As for the religion that we now follow, it is the religion of Allah Ta\u2018ala. Allah Ta\u2018ala sent a Rasul to us, just as He had sent Ambiyaa and Rasuls to those before us. This Rasul brought truthfulness and righteousness to us and forbade us from idol-worship. We accepted him, brought imaan in him and followed him. The moment we did this, our people turned against us as enemies. They wish to kill this truthful Nabi and return us to idol-worship. Thus, we fled from our land and come to you in order to protect our lives and our religion. Had our people allowed us to remain with peace in our homeland, we would have certainly remained there.
