Amr bin \u2018Aas and \u2018Abdullah bin Abi Rabee\u2018ah were extremely apprehensive of the Emperor summoning the Sahaabah (radhiyallahu \u2018anhum), questioning them and hearing what they had to say. We can well imagine why they were apprehensive and averse to the Emperor questioning and speaking to the Sahaabah (radhiyallahu \u2018anhum) and why they wanted the Emperor to hand them over without any form of investigation and discussion.<\/p>\n

The reason for \u2018Amr bin \u2018Aas and \u2018Abdullah bin Abi Rabee\u2018ah being apprehensive is quite obvious \u2013 they knew well that that the moment the truth left the tongues of the Sahaabah (radhiyallahu \u2018anhum), it would entrench itself into the heart of the Emperor.<\/p>\n

In essence, the representatives of the Quraish pleaded their case before the Emperor while the ministers also supported them and advised the Emperor to hand the Sahaabah (radhiyallahu \u2018anhum) over to these people. However, exactly what they feared is what transpired.<\/p>\n

The Emperor Najaashi was angered and clearly said, \u201cWithout first investigating the situation and speaking to them, I cannot hand them over to you. When these people have left their homeland and sought refuge in my kingdom, then how can I possibly hand them over to their enemies without any investigation or enquiry?\u201d The Emperor then sent one of his messengers to summon the Sahaabah (radhiyallahu \u2018anhum).<\/p>\n

When the messenger conveyed the royal summons, one of the Sahaabah (radhiyallahu \u2018anhum) asked the others, \u201cOn arriving in the Emperor\u2019s court, what will we say? (keeping in mind that the Emperor is a Christian while we are Muslims, and we differ on a number of fundamental beliefs)\u201d<\/p>\n

The other Sahaabah (radhiyallahu \u2018anhum) replied, \u201cIn the court of the Emperor, we will say whatever our Nabi (sallallahu \u2018alaihi wasallam) has taught us and told us. No matter what happens, we will not say more than that.\u201d<\/p>\n
