Once, Hazrat Umar (radhiyallahu \u2018anhu) was given some milk to drink. When he drank it, he found that it tasted different. Upon asking the person who presented the milk to him how he had acquired it, the person replied, \u201cThe camels given in sadaqah were grazing in the desert, and the people looking after them gave me this milk from those camels.\u201d<\/p>\n

Hazrat Umar (radhiyallahu \u2018anhu) immediately put his finger in his throat and vomited all the milk that he had drank.<\/p>\n

These people, who possessed the fear of Allah Ta\u2018ala in their hearts, not only abstained from haraam food, but also were most anxious to avoid consuming any doubtful morsel. They could not tolerate consuming anything doubtful, let alone anything that was haraam, like how it has become common today among people who consume haraam without any concern.<\/p>\n

Hazrat Abu Bakr (radhiyallahu \u2018anhu) Giving His Orchard as Waqf to the Baytul Maal Out of Caution<\/strong><\/p>\n

Hazrat Ibnu Seereen (rahimahullah) mentions:<\/p>\n

When Hazrat Abu Bakr (radhiyallahu \u2018anhu) was about to pass away, he told his daughter, Hazrat Aaishah (radhiyallahu \u2018anha), \u201cI did not want to take anything from the Baytul Maal, but Hazrat Umar (radhiyallahu \u2018anhu) insisted on it, because not taking an allowance would be difficult for me, and because the welfare of the Musims would be affected through me engaging in business together with seeing to the affairs of the Musims. Now because I had taken an allowance from the Baytul Maal, you should give my orchard in exchange of the money which I had taken from the Baytul Maal.\u2019\u201d<\/p>\n

When Hazrat Abu Bakr (radhiyallahu \u2018anhu) passed away, Hazrat Aaishah (radhiyallahu \u2018anha) sent a message with someone to Hazrat Umar (radhiyallahu \u2018anhu) asking him to take the orchard, as per the instruction of her late father, Hazrat Abu Bakr (radhiyallahu \u2018anhu).<\/p>\n

Hazrat Umar (radhiyallahu \u2018anhu) said, \u201cMay Allah Ta\u2018ala have mercy on your father! He has left no chance for anybody to utter a word against him.\u201d<\/p>\n

We first need to consider the meagre allowance of Hazrat Abu Bakr (radhiyallahu \u2018anhu), and that too, at the insistence of the other Sahaabah (radhiyallahu \u2018anhum) and for the welfare of the Muslims in general.<\/p>\n

We have also seen the extreme caution he exercised in this regard in the fourth story in the last chapter, where his wife struggled to save money for a sweet dish. He then had this money deposited in the Baytul Maal and even had his allowance reduced by the money she was saving every day. Despite this, he still made over his orchard to the Baytul Maal in lieu of what he had received from the public funds.<\/p>\n
