Hazrat Moulana Ashraf Ali Thaanwi (rahimahullah) once mentioned the following:<\/p>\n
I received a letter from a certain person. He mentioned the following: I am a person who is working and earning, and my salary is sufficient for me. However, I desire to earn more money, and for this, I intend to work harder to earn more money. From this desire that I have within my heart, I feel that I have the spiritual malady of Hubb-ud-Dunya (love for wealth) within me. Please tell me what remedy I may adopt to rectify this spiritual malady.<\/p>\n
After reading the letter, Hazrat Moulana Ashraf Ali Thaanwi (rahimahullah) mentioned to those who were present, \u201cFrom this person\u2019s letter, I can see that he has not understood what is a spiritual malady.\u201d<\/p>\n
Hearing this, one of the people present asked Hazrat Thaanwi (rahimahullah), \u201cHazrat! Explain to us what is a spiritual malady!\u201d Hazrat Moulana Ashraf Ali Thaanwi (rahimahullah) replied:<\/p>\n
The definition of a spiritual malady is \u2013 any action that amounts to the disobedience of Allah Ta\u2018ala is regarded as a spiritual malady. If it does not amount to the disobedience of Allah Ta\u2018ala, then it is not regarded as a spiritual malady.<\/p>\n
For example, this person has regarded having love for wealth in his heart to be a spiritual malady. However, every type of love of wealth is not a spiritual malady. Rather, only that love of wealth is a spiritual malady which causes one to fall into the disobedience of Allah Ta\u2018ala. For example, a person has so much of love for wealth that when earning money, he does not differentiate between halaal and haraam. This excessive love for wealth within him causes him to disobey Allah Ta\u2018ala and fall into sin while earning, hence this type of excessive love for wealth is regarded as a spiritual malady.<\/p>\n
