Hazrat Jaabir bin Abdillah (radhiyallahu \u2018anhuma) reports:<\/p>\n

On the day of Uhud, when the Sahaabah began fleeing from the battlefield, Rasulullah (sallallahu \u2018alaihi wasallam) was left alone in a certain place with only twelve Sahaabah present with him. Among these twelve Sahaabah was Hazrat Talhah ibn Ubaydillah (radhiyallahu \u2018anhu).<\/p>\n

When the Mushrikeen advanced towards Rasulullah (sallallahu \u2018alaihi wasallam) and the twelve Sahaabah, Rasulullah (sallallahu \u2018alaihi wasallam) turned (to the twelve Sahaabah) and said: \u201cWho among you will go ahead and fight these people?\u201d<\/p>\n

Hazrat Talhah (radhiyallahu \u2018anhu) replied, \u201cI will fight them.\u201d<\/p>\n

Rasulullah (sallallahu \u2018alaihi wasallam) said to him: \u201cRemain here (with me).\u201d<\/p>\n

Then an Ansaari Sahaabi said, \u201cI will fight them, O Rasulullah (sallallahu \u2018alaihi wasallam).\u201d<\/p>\n

Rasulullah (sallallahu \u2018alaihi wasallam) said to him: \u201cYou go ahead.\u201d The Sahaabi fought until he was martyred.<\/p>\n

The Mushrikeen advanced for a second time. Rasulullah (sallallahu \u2018alaihi wasallam) turned to the Sahaabah and asked for the second time: \u201cWho will fight these people and defend us?\u201d<\/p>\n

Hazrat Talhah (radhiyallahu \u2018anhu) again said, \u201cI will fight them, O Rasul of Allah (sallallahu \u2018alaihi wasallam).\u201d Rasulullah (sallallahu \u2018alaihi wasallam) again said to him: \u201cRemain here (with me).\u201d<\/p>\n

Another Ansaari Sahaabi said, \u201cI will fight them, O Rasul of Allah (sallallahu \u2018alaihi wasallam).\u201d<\/p>\n

Rasulullah (sallallahu \u2018alaihi wasallam) said to him: \u201cYou go ahead.\u201d The Sahaabi fought until he was also martyred.<\/p>\n

This continued in this way, with each of the twelve Sahaabah going ahead, fighting and gaining martyrdom, until only Rasululllah (sallallahu \u2018alaihi wasallam) and Hazrat Talhah ibn Ubaydillah (radhiyallahu \u2018anhu) remained.<\/p>\n

Rasulullah (sallallahu \u2018alaihi wasallam) then again said: \u201cWho will fight these people (and defend us)?\u201d<\/p>\n

Hazrat Talhah (radhiyallahu \u2018anhu) said, \u201cI will go and fight them.\u201d<\/p>\n

Hazrat Talhah (radhiyallahu \u2018anhu) then went ahead and fought with the valour, bravery and strength of the eleven Sahaabah before him until his hand was struck by the enemy, and his fingers were severed. At this point, he expressed his pain and said, \u201cHiss!\u201d<\/p>\n

Upon this, Rasulullah (sallallahu \u2018alaihi wasallam) said to him: \u201cHad you only taken the name of Allah (at that time), the angels would have lifted you up in the midst of the people while they would be looking at you.\u201d<\/p>\n

At that time Allah Ta\u2019ala\u2019s divine help descended and the Mushrikeen were repelled from Rasulullah (sallallahu \u2018alaihi wasallam) and Hazrat Talhah (radhiyallahu \u2018anhu) through the angels defending Rasulullah (sallallahu \u2018alaihi wasallam).<\/p>\n

In certain Ahaadith, it is mentioned that Hazrat Ali (radhiyallahu \u2018anhu) also came to the fore and defended Rasulullah (sallallahu \u2018alaihi wasallam) from the attack of the kuffaar.<\/p>\n
