There are many sunnats and aadaab that pertain to various departments of a person\u2019s deeni and wordly life.<\/p>\n

Some of these sunnats and aadaab relate to one\u2019s family or one\u2019s community or the general people, whom one interacts with (e.g. sunnats pertaining to parents, spouses, siblings, children, neighbours, guests, sunnats when travelling with one\u2019s companions, sunnats relating to business, sunnats when entering a town, etc.).<\/p>\n

However, there are certain sunnats and aadaab which each person should adhere to in regard to his individual self, in order to improve his relationship with Allah Ta\u2019ala.<\/p>\n

Through adhering to these sunnats and aadaab, one will be able to fulfil the rights he owes to Allah Ta’ala and the rights he owes to people, thereby making him a better Muslim and enabling him to acquire the goodness of Islam in his life.<\/p>\n

Below we will mention the sunnats and aadaab which pertain to a person in his individual life.<\/p>\n

1. One should be concerned about correcting one\u2019s weaknesses and faults, and make a concerted effort to correct oneself.<\/p>\n

Hazrat Shaddaad bin Aus (radhiyallahu anhu) reports that Rasulullah (sallallahu alaihi wasallam) said, \u201cAn intelligent person is he who takes stock of himself and prepares for the life after death, and a foolish person is he who follows his whims and desires (against the laws of shariah) and places false hopes that (despite sinning), Allah Ta\u2019ala will forgive him.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n

Hazrat Umar (radhiyallahu anhu) is reported to have said, \u201cTake an account of your deeds in this world ( by pondering over your weaknesses and faults) before the time comes when you have to give an account (before Allah Ta\u2019ala).\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n

2. One should daily make istighfaar and taubah for the sins, wrongs or mistakes that one may have committed knowingly or unknowingly.<\/p>\n

Allah Ta’ala says:<\/p>\n

Hazrat Abdullah bin Busr (radhiyallahu \u2018anhu) reports that Rasulullah (sallallahu \u2018alaihi wasallam) said, \u201cGlad tidings be for that person who has abundant istighfaar in his book of deeds.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n

Hazrat Abu Hurairah (radhiyallahu \u2018anhu) reports, \u201cI heard Rasulullah (sallallahu \u2018alaihi wasallam) mention, \u2018By Allah, I make istighfaar and taubah more than seventy times in a day.\u2019\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n

Note:<\/strong> Rasulullah (sallallahu \u2018alaihi wasallam) was sinless. Despite being sinless, he would make abundant istighfaar and taubah as he felt that the Ibaadat which he carried out was not in conformity to the majesty and greatness of Allah Ta\u2019ala.<\/p>\n

How much more is there a need for us, his ummah, to make istighfaar and taubah daily as we are not sinless and our ibaadaat is deficient and full of weaknesses.<\/p>\n

3. One should reserve some time daily to recite the Qur\u2019aan Majeed, recite durood shareef and make some zikr.<\/p>\n

Hazrat ibn Umar (radhiyallahu \u2018anhuma) reports that Rasulullah (sallallahu \u2018alaihi wasallam) said: \u201cIndeed these hearts rust just as iron rusts when water comes over it.\u201d The Sahaabah (radhiyallahu \u2018anhum) asked, \u201cO Rasulullah (sallallahu \u2018alaihi wasallam), what is the way to cleanse it?\u201d Rasulullah (sallallahu \u2018alaihi wasallam) replied: \u201cRemembering death excessively and reciting the Qur\u2019aan Majeed.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n

Hazrat Abu Zar (radhiyallahu \u2018anhu) reports, \u201cI once asked Rasulullah (sallallahu \u2018alaihi wasallam), \u2018O Rasulullah (sallallahu \u2018alaihi wasallam), give me some advice?\u2019 Rasulullah (sallallahu \u2018alaihi wasallam) replied, \u2018Firmly hold onto taqwa, for it is the head (highest) of all deeds.\u2019 I then said, \u2018O Rasulullah (sallallahu \u2018alaihi wasallam), give me more advice.\u2019 Rasulullah (sallallahu \u2018alaihi wasallam) said, \u2018Firmly hold onto the recitation of the Qur\u2019aan Majeed, for it is a light for you in this world and a treasure for you in the hereafter.\u2019\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n

Hazrat Abu Hurairah (radhiyallahu \u2018anhu) reports that Hazrat Rasulullah (sallallahu \u2018alaihi wasallam) said, \u201cThe one who recites the Quraan Majeed, praises Allah Ta\u2019ala (makes zikr), recites Durood upon Rasulullah (sallallahu \u2018alaihi wasallam) and seeks forgiveness from his Rabb has sought goodness from the true source of goodness (i.e. he has carried out actions which are a source of goodness for him).\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n
