Together with adopting a soft and gentle approach when speaking to them, he should refrain from belittling him or causing him embarrassment in any way.<\/p>\n<p>This approach of speaking gently to people and not causing them any embarrassment was the Sunnah of Rasulullah (sallallahu \u2018alaihi wasallam) and the way of the Ambiyaa (\u2018alaihimus salaam).<\/p>\n<p>The Sahaabah (radhiyallahu \u2018anhum) and the pious of the past also adhered to this mubaarak sunnah of Rasulullah (sallallahu \u2018alaihi wasallam) and the Ambiyaa (\u2018alaihimus salaam) when inviting people to Islam or advising and correcting them.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Inviting Fir\u2019aun towards Islam<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>At the time when Nabi Musa (\u2018alaihis salaam) and Nabi Haroon (\u2018alaihis salaam) were commanded by Allah Ta\u2018ala to go to Fir\u2019aun and invite him to Islam, Allah Ta\u2018ala commanded them both to adopt a gentle approach when speaking to him. Allah Ta\u2018ala said, \u201c<em>Speak to him (i.e. Fir\u2019aun) gently, so that perhaps maybe he will heed the advice or develop the fear of Allah Ta\u2018ala.<\/em>\u201d<em> (Surah Taha v. 44)<\/em><\/p>\n<p>Despite Fir\u2019aun claiming divinity, which is the most heinous of sins, greater than which there is no other sin, Allah Ta\u2018ala commanded Nabi Musa (\u2018alaihis salaam) to speak to him gently and politely when inviting him to deen.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Haaroon Rasheed (rahimahullah) Advising a Person<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>It is reported that on one occasion, a person came to Haaroon Rasheed (rahimahullah) and addressed him before people in a harsh manner saying, \u201cO Haaroon! Fear Allah Ta\u2018ala!\u201d On observing the harsh and impolite manner in which this person had conducted himself when advising him, Haaroon Rasheed (rahimahullah) took the man aside, into seclusion, in order to advise him.<\/p>\n<p>Haaroon (rahimahullah) said to him, \u201cO so-and-so! Deal with me with justice! Tell me, am I more evil or Fir\u2019aun?\u201d The man replied, \u201cFir\u2019aun was more evil than you.\u201d Haaroon (rahimahullah) then asked him, \u201cAre you better or Nabi Musa (\u2018alaihis salaam)?\u201d The man replied, \u201cNabi Musa (\u2018alaihis salaam) was better than me.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Haaroon (rahimahullah) then said, \u201cDo you not know that when Allah Ta\u2018ala sent Nabi Musa (\u2018alaihis salaam) and his brother, Nabi Haaroon (\u2018alaihis salaam), to Fir\u2019aun, then he instructed them saying, \u2018Speak to him gently.\u2019 In comparison, you have confronted me and addressed me with harsh words in front of people. Thus, you have not adopted the etiquette which Allah Ta\u2018ala commanded Nabi Musa (\u2018alaihis salaam) to adopt when speaking to Fir\u2019aun, nor have you emulated the sublime character of the pious servants of Allah Ta\u2018ala.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>This man was a sincere person, and hence he acknowledged his error. He apologized to Haaroon (rahimahullah) saying, \u201cI made a mistake, and I ask Allah Ta\u2018ala to forgive me.\u201d On his part, Haaroon (rahimahullah) did not harbor a grudge and immediately pardoned the person saying, \u201cMay Allah Ta\u2018ala forgive you.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Haaroon (rahimahullah) thereafter instructed that this person be given twenty thousand dirhams as a gift, however the person refused to accept it. <em>(Al-Muntazam 8\/328)<\/em><\/p>\n<p>From this, we understand that at the time of advising or correcting any person, one should think to oneself, \u201cI am not greater than Nabi Musa (\u2018alaihis salaam), nor is this person worse than Fir\u2019aun.
