Whenever the Quraish would refer to Rasulullah (sallallahu \u2018alaihi wasallam) as Muzammam (the despised one) and speak ill of him, then Rasulullah (sallallahu \u2018alaihi wasallam) would say, \u201cO people! Do you not find it strange how Allah Ta\u2018ala has averted their insults from me? They insult me by referring to me as Muzammam, whereas I am actually Muhammed (the praised one).\u201d<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

According to another narration, when Hazrat Abu Bakr (radhiyallahu \u2018anhu) noticed Ummu Jameel (the wife of Abu Lahab) coming towards them (to attack Rasulullah (sallallahu \u2018alaihi wasallam) after Surah Lahab was revealed), he cautioned Rasulullah (sallallahu \u2018alaihi wasallam) saying, \u201cO Prophet of Allah (sallallahu \u2018alaihi wasallam)! Ummu Jameel is approaching us from the front! I fear for your safety!\u201d Rasulullah (sallallahu \u2018alaihi wasallam) replied:<\/p>\n

She will never see me.<\/em><\/p>\n

Rasulullah (sallallahu \u2018alaihi wasallam) then recited a few verses of the Qur\u2019aan Majeed.<\/p>\n

The narration of Musnad Bazzaar reported by Hazrat Ibnu \u2018Abbaas (radhiyallahu \u2018anhuma) mentions that Ummu Jameel came up to Hazrat Abu Bakr (radhiyallahu \u2018anhu) and said, \u201cThis man insults me through poetry (referring to Surah Lahab that was revealed explaining the punishment that she and her husband will receive in Jahannum due to their actions).\u201d Hazrat Abu Bakr (radhiyallahu \u2018anhu) replied, \u201cBy the Lord of the Ka\u2019bah! What he speaks is not poetry.\u201d Ummu Jameel retorted in rage, \u201cYou are a man who believes all that he says.\u201d<\/p>\n

Saying this, she walked away. Hazrat Abu Bakr (radhiyallahu \u2018anhu) then said, \u201cO Prophet of Allah (sallallahu \u2018alaihi wasallam)! It seems that Ummu Jameel did not see you.\u201d Rasulullah (sallallahu \u2018alaihi wasallam) replied, \u201cUntil she left, an angel continued to conceal me from her.\u201d<\/p>\n
