Abu Jahal was the Fir\u2018aun of the ummah of Rasulullah (sallallahu \u2018alaihi wasallam). He left no stone unturned in expressing his enmity and hostility for Rasulullah (sallallahu \u2018alaihi wasallam).<\/p>\n

Several incidents demonstrating his hatred for Rasulullah (sallallahu \u2018alaihi wasallam) have already been mentioned, and further such incidents will be mentioned in future as well. From the final words he uttered, as he was dying (the details of which will be discussed under the chapter dealing with the battle of Badr insha Allah), one will gain a clear gauge of the extent of his animosity for Rasulullah (sallallahu \u2018alaihi wasallam).<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

Abu Jahal was originally known as Abul Hakam (which literally means \u2018the father of wisdom\u2019). However, Rasulullah (sallallahu \u2018alaihi wasallam) changed this title to Abu Jahal (the father of ignorance). Abu Jahal would often boastfully say, \u201cI am \u2018Azeez and Kareem (the honoured and the leader).\u201d Upon this, the following verses of the Qur\u2019aan Majeed were revealed:<\/p>\n

Indeed, the tree of Zaqqoom will be the food of the great sinner. Like boiling water, it boils within the bellies, like the boiling of scalding water. (The angels will be commanded,) \u201cSeize him and drag him into the midst of the blazing fire. Then pour over his head the agony of boiling water. (He will be told) Taste this! You (are the one who claimed) you are the honoured, the noble\u201d. (Surah Dukhaan v. 43-49)<\/em><\/p>\n
