The Marriage of Hazrat \u2018Ali (radhiyallahu \u2018anhu) to Hazrat Faatimah (radhiyallahu \u2018anha) (continued)<\/strong><\/p>\n

After the proposal of Hazrat Abu Bakr (radhiyallahu \u2018anhu) for Hazrat Faatimah (radhiyallahu \u2018anha) was not accepted, Hazrat Abu Bakr (radhiyallahu \u2018anhu) suggested to Hazrat Umar (radhiyallahu \u2018anhu) to propose for her.<\/p>\n

Hazrat Umar (radhiyallahu \u2018anhu) accepted the suggestion of Hazrat Abu Bakr (radhiyallahu \u2018anhu). Hence, he went to his daughter, Hazrat Hafsah (radhiyallahu \u2018anha), the respected wife of Rasulullah (sallallahu \u2018alaihi wasallam), and said, \u201cO Hafsah! When you find the opportune time, when Rasulullah (sallallahu \u2018alaihi wasallam) is at ease, then inform him that I propose for his daughter, Hazrat Faatimah (radhiyallahu \u2018anha). Perhaps Allah Ta\u2018ala will bless me with her hand in marriage.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

Accordingly, when Rasulullah (sallallahu \u2018alaihi wasallam) came to the home of Hazrat Hafsah (radhiyallahu \u2018anha), and she found the appropriate time, then she said, \u201cO Rasul of Allah (sallallahu \u2018alaihi wasallam)! My father, Hazrat Umar (radhiyallahu \u2018anhu), asked me to mention to you that he proposes for Hazrat Faatimah (radhiyallahu \u2018anha).\u201d Hearing this, Rasulullah (sallallahu \u2018alaihi wasallam) gave the same response which he had given when Hazrat Abu Bakr (radhiyallahu \u2018anhu) had proposed. Rasulullah (sallallahu \u2018alaihi wasallam) said, \u201cI will wait for Allah Ta\u2018ala to decide in this matter.\u201d<\/p>\n

When Hazrat Umar (radhiyallahu \u2018anhu) informed Hazrat Abu Bakr (radhiyallahu \u2018anhu) regarding the response of Rasulullah (sallallahu \u2018alaihi wasallam), Hazrat Abu Bakr (radhiyallahu \u2018anhu) remarked to him, \u201cO Umar! It apparently seems that Rasulullah (sallallahu \u2018alaihi wasallam) has also not accepted your proposal.\u201d<\/p>\n

Thereafter, Hazrat Umar (radhiyallahu \u2018anhu) went to Hazrat Ali (radhiyallahu \u2018anhu) and said to him, \u201cWhy do you not propose for Hazrat Faatimah (radhiyallahu \u2018anha)?\u201d Hazrat Ali (radhiyallahu \u2018anhu) replied, \u201cI do not think that Rasulullah (sallallahu \u2018alaihi wasallam) will marry her to me.\u201d Hazrat Umar (radhiyallahu \u2018anhu) responded, \u201cWhy will Rasulullah (sallallahu \u2018alaihi wasallam) not marry her to you when you are among the closest of all people to him?\u201d<\/p>\n

According to another narration, the family of Hazrat Ali (radhiyallahu \u2018anhu) also encouraged him to propose for Hazrat Faatimah (radhiyallahu \u2018anha) and told him that Rasulullah (sallallahu \u2018alaihi wasallam) would perhaps consider his proposal on account of him being closely related to Rasulullah (sallallahu \u2018alaihi wasallam). Hence, with the suggestion of his family as well as Hazrat Umar (radhiyallahu \u2018anhu), Hazrat Ali (radhiyallahu \u2018anhu) decided to propose for Hazrat Faatimah (radhiyallahu \u2018anha).<\/p>\n
