Hazrat Faatimah (radhiyallahu \u2018anha) was the youngest daughter of Rasulullah (sallallahu \u2018alaihi wasallam). She was an embodiment of piety and virtue. When she reached marriageable age, there were few Sahaabah (radhiyallahu \u2018anhum) who proposed for her hand in marriage, hoping to acquire the good fortune of being part of the blessed household of Rasulullah (sallallahu \u2018alaihi wasallam).<\/p>\n

Among the Sahaabah (radhiyallahu \u2018anhum), who proposed for Hazrat Faatimah (radhiyallahu \u2018anha), were Hazrat Abu Bakr (radhiyallahu \u2018anhu) and Hazrat Umar (radhiyallahu \u2018anhu).<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

It is reported that Hazrat Umar (radhiyallahu \u2018anhu) suggested to Hazrat Abu Bakr (radhiyallahu \u2018anhu) to propose for Hazrat Faatimah (radhiyallahu \u2018anha) saying, \u201cO Abu Bakr! Why do you not propose for Hazrat Faatimah (radhiyallahu \u2018anha)?\u201d Hazrat Abu Bakr (radhiyallahu \u2018anhu) replied, \u201cI do not think that Rasulullah (sallallahu \u2018alaihi wasallam) will marry her to me.\u201d Hazrat Umar (radhiyallahu \u2018anhu) responded, \u201cWhy will Rasulullah (sallallahu \u2018alaihi wasallam) not marry her to you when you are the most honoured of all people to him, and you were the first to embrace Islam!\u201d<\/p>\n

Thus, at the request of Hazrat Umar (radhiyallahu \u2018anhu), Hazrat Abu Bakr (radhiyallahu \u2018anhu) went to his respected daughter, Hazrat Aa\u2019ishah (radhiyallahu \u2018anha), and said to her, \u201cO Aa\u2019ishah! When you find the opportune time, when Rasulullah (sallallahu \u2018alaihi wasallam) is at ease, then inform him that I propose for his daughter, Hazrat Faatimah (radhiyallahu \u2018anha). Perhaps Allah Ta\u2018ala will bless me with her hand in marriage.\u201d<\/p>\n

Accordingly, when Rasulullah (sallallahu \u2018alaihi wasallam) came to the home of Hazrat Aa\u2019ishah (radhiyallahu \u2018anha), and she found the right opportunity, then she said, \u201cO Rasul of Allah (sallallahu \u2018alaihi wasallam)! My father, Hazrat Abu Bakr (radhiyallahu \u2018anhu), asked me to mention to you that he wishes to marry Hazrat Faatimah (radhiyallahu \u2018anha).\u201d Rasulullah (sallallahu \u2018alaihi wasallam) responded, \u201cI will wait for Allah Ta\u2018ala to decide in this matter.\u201d<\/p>\n

According to another narration, Hazrat Abu Bakr (radhiyallahu \u2018anhu) personally spoke to Rasulullah (sallallahu \u2018alaihi wasallam) and proposed. In reply, Rasulullah (sallallahu \u2018alaihi wasallam) said, \u201cO Abu Bakr (radhiyallahu \u2018anhu)! Let us wait for Allah Ta\u2018ala to decide in this matter.\u201d<\/p>\n

When Hazrat Abu Bakr (radhiyallahu \u2018anhu) thereafter mentioned to Hazrat Umar (radhiyallahu \u2018anhu) what had transpired, Hazrat Umar (radhiyallahu \u2018anhu) said to him, \u201cIt seems as though Rasulullah (sallallahu \u2018alaihi wasallam) has not accepted your proposal.\u201d<\/p>\n

Hazrat Umar (radhiyallahu \u2018anhu) thereafter intended proposing for Hazrat Faatimah (radhiyallahu \u2018anha).<\/p>\n
