1. Pour water over the right side of the body thrice, from the top of the body to the bottom, and thereafter pour water over the left side of the body thrice, from the top of the body to the bottom. Through washing in this manner, the sunnah will be fulfilled. It is also correct to wash the right side once, followed by the left side once, repeating this process for a second and third time. By washing in this manner, the sunnah will also be fulfilled. When pouring water on the body, pour water on the front portion of the body before the back portion.[1]<\/sup><\/p>\n

2. Ensure that water reaches every part of the body. Each time you pour water, rub the body to ensure that the water reaches the skin. Even if an area equal to a hair\u2019s breadth is left dry, the fardh ghusl will not be complete. When washing the body, wash the front before the back.[2]<\/sup><\/p>\n

Sayyiduna Ali (radhiyallahu \u2018anhu) reports that Sayyiduna Rasulullah (sallallahu \u2018alaihi wasallam) said, \u201cThe one who is in janaabah (requires a fardh ghusl) and leaves a portion (of his body) equal to a hair without washing it, that portion of his body will be subjected to such-and-such punishment in Jahannum.\u201d Sayyiduna Ali (radhiyallahu \u2018anhu) thereafter said thrice, \u201cThat is why I dislike keeping hair.\u201d It is reported that Sayyiduna Ali (radhiyallahu \u2018anhu) would shave his head (out of the fear that during the ghusl, no hair should remain dry, thereby causing the ghusl to be incomplete).<\/em><\/p>\n

3. Do not waste water during the ghusl. Too much of water should not be used, nor should so little be used, that one is unable to wash thoroughly.See 101<\/p>\n

Sayyiduna Aqeel bin Abi Taalib (radhiyallahu \u2018anhu) reports that Sayyiduna Rasulullah (sallallahu \u2018alaihi wasallam) said, \u201cOne mudd of water is sufficient for wudhu, and one saa\u2019 of water is sufficient for ghusl.\u201d Hearing this, a certain person remarked, \u201cThis amount of water will not suffice us.\u201d Sayyiduna Aqeel (radhiyallahu \u2018anhu) admonished this person and responded, \u201cIt would suffice the one who was better than you and who had more hair than you (referring to Sayyiduna Rasulullah (sallallahu \u2018alaihi wasallam)).\u201d (Mudd and saa\u2019 are two types of measures)<\/em><\/p>\n

4. Do not engage in talking, singing or any type of conversation while performing ghusl.[5]<\/sup><\/p>\n
