1. Gargle the mouth and insert water into the nose together thrice.<\/p>\n

The method of gargling the mouth and inserting water into the nose together is as follows: First, take a handful of water with your right hand. Then, using some of the water, gargle once. Thereafter, using the remaining water in your hand, rinse your nose. This will be repeated another two times, using a separate handful of water each time.<\/p>\n

Ensure that you gargle thoroughly, allowing the water to reach all the parts of the mouth.[1]<\/sup><\/p>\n

Sayyiduna\u00a0Abdullah bin Zaid (radhiyallahu \u2018anhu) was asked regarding the wudhu of Sayyiduna Rasulullah (sallallahu \u2018alaihi wasallam). Hence, he requested that a utensil of water be brought. He then demonstrated to them the manner in which Sayyiduna Rasulullah (sallallahu \u2018alaihi wasallam) used to perform wudhu. He poured water onto his hands from the utensil and then washed his hands (till the wrists) thrice. Thereafter, he inserted his hands in the utensil and (took water and) gargled his mouth and rinsed his nose thrice.<\/em><\/p>\n

2. If there is a need to clean the nose, do so with the small finger of the left hand.[2]<\/sup><\/p>\n

Sayyiduna Abu Hurairah (radhiyallahu \u2018anhu) reports that Sayyiduna Rasulullah (sallallahu \u2018alaihi wasallam) said, \u201cWhen any one of you performs wudhu then he should insert water into the nostrils and thereafter clean the nose (with the left hand).\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n

3. When fasting, exercise caution in gargling the mouth and rinsing the nose. Do not exert yourself in doing so, as water may go down the throat or nasal passage, thus causing the fast to break.[3]<\/sup><\/p>\n

Sayyiduna Laqeet bin Sabirah (radhiyallahu \u2018anhu) reports, \u201cI once asked Rasulullah (sallallahu \u2018alaihi wasallam) regarding wudhu. Rasulullah (sallallahu \u2018alaihi wasallam) said, \u2018Perform a complete and perfect wudhu, ensure that you make khilaal of the fingers and rinse the nose thoroughly, except in the case where you are fasting.\u2019\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n

Sayyiduna Abu Moosa Ash\u2019ari (radhiyallahu \u2018anhu) reports, \u201cI brought water to Rasulullah (sallallahu \u2018alaihi wasallam) to perform wudhu. (It has encompassed all the bounties and favours of Allah Ta\u2018ala within it.)\u2019\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n

5. Wash the face thrice. The procedure of washing the face is to take water in both hands and pass it over the face. The face has to be washed from the top of the forehead (the hairline) to beneath the chin and from one ear till the other. Ensure that water reaches all parts of the face, including the corner of the eyes and the skin between the earlobes and sideburns. A small amount of the front portion of the head and a small amount below the chin should also be washed with the face to ensure that the face is washed completely.[7]<\/sup><\/p>\n
