1. When making istinjaa, use clods of sand[1]<\/sup> (or toilet paper) as well as water to clean yourself. Ensure that you fill the jug with water before relieving yourself, as you may put yourself through difficulty if there is no water.[2]<\/sup><\/a><\/p>\n

Sayyiduna Abu Hurairah (radhiyallahu \u2018anhu) reports that Sayyiduna Nabi (sallallahu \u2018alaihi wasallam) said, \u201cThe aayah <\/em>\u0641\u0650\u064a\u0652\u0647\u0650 \u0631\u0650\u062c\u064e\u0627\u0644\u064c \u064a\u064f\u062d\u0650\u0628\u0651\u064f\u0648\u0652\u0646\u064e \u0623\u064e\u0646\u0652 \u064a\u064e\u062a\u064e\u0637\u064e\u0647\u0651\u064e\u0631\u064f\u0648\u0652\u0627<\/span>\u00a0 (in it are men who like to observe purity) was revealed regarding the people of Qubaa on account of them making istinjaa with water.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n

Sayyiduna Ali (radhiyallahu \u2018anhu) mentioned, \u201cThe stool of the people before you was dry and hard and the stool of you people is more soft (i.e. due to the nature of their food being different). Therefore, make istinjaa with clods of sand and thereafter cleanse with water (as soft stool soils the area around the passage).\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n

2. Use your left hand to clean yourself. To make istinjaa with the right hand is makrooh. Similarly, do not touch the private part with the right hand.[4]<\/a><\/p>\n

Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Abi Qataadah (radhiyallahu \u2018anhu) narrates from his father that Sayyiduna Nabi (sallallahu \u2018alaihi wasallam) said, \u201cWhen any of you relieves himself then he should not hold his private part with his right hand nor should he make istinjaa with his right hand.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n

3. Exit the toilet with the right foot and thank Allah Ta\u2018ala for allowing the waste to leave your body and for blessing you with good health. The manner of thanking Allah Ta\u2018ala is to recite the following dua upon leaving the toilet after relieving yourself: See 17 and 23<\/p>\n

O Allah <\/em>Ta\u2018ala, I seek Your forgiveness. All praise is due to Allah Ta\u2018ala who has removed from me impurity and filth (that would have been harmful if it remained in my body) and granted me relief and ease.<\/em><\/p>\n

Note: <\/strong><\/em>One should repeat the word <\/em>\u063a\u0641\u0631\u0627\u0646\u0643<\/em> thrice and thereafter recite the remainder portion of the dua once.<\/em>[6]<\/a><\/p>\n

All praise is due to Allah Ta\u2018ala who allowed me to enjoy the taste (of the food), and retained within me its nourishment (and energy), and removed from me its harm (i.e. the harm of the food after it was transformed into waste).<\/em><\/p>\n

\n

[1]<\/a> It is permissible to use pure clay \u2018lumps’ of dry earth, dry mud lumps or stones for istinjaa, provided the body is properly cleaned. The stone should be rough enough in such a manner that all dirt can be removed.<\/p>\n
