A fasting patient requires urgent treatment e.g. extraction or draining abscess.<\/p>\n<p>1. Will this be permissible while fasting? Bear in mind<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>an injection is required<\/li>\n<li>blood flows from the extraction site<\/li>\n<li>water may be put into the patient&#8217;s mouth<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>2. Will the fast need to be repeated?<\/p>\n<p>3. Can elective (non-emergency) procedures be done while a patient is fasting, where every effort is made to see that the patient does not swallow any water that is put into his mouth?<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" src=\"http:\/\/muftionline.co.za\/sites\/default\/files\/pictures\/bismillah.jpg\" alt=\"\" \/><\/p>\n<p><strong>A:<\/strong>\u00a0It is advisable for a fasting person to delay the extraction till after the fast. However, if the fasting patient urgently requires an extraction then all effort should be made to ensure that water or blood does not go down the throat. If after adopting all measures, blood or water goes down the throat, one will not be sinful and only qadha of the broken fast will be waajib.
