Before sleeping, we are taught to recite the masnoon duas and remember Allah Ta\u2018ala. Among the masnoon duas before sleeping, is the following dua:<\/p>\n

\u0627\u064e\u0644\u0644\u0651\u0670\u0647\u064f\u0645\u0651\u064e \u0628\u0650\u0627\u0633\u0652\u0645\u0650\u0643\u064e \u0623\u064e\u0645\u064f\u0648\u0652\u062a\u064f \u0648\u064e\u0623\u064e\u062d\u0652\u064a\u0670\u0649<\/p>\n

\u00a0O Allah Ta\u2018ala<\/em>, with Your name do I die and live.<\/em> [1]<\/sup><\/p>\n

In this dua, sleep has been resembled to death, due to the fact that when a person sleeps, he loses his senses and consciousness.<\/p>\n

Hence, from this dua, we are being taught that at the time of sleeping, one should be prepared to meet Allah Ta\u2018ala.<\/p>\n

Similarly, upon awakening, one of the masnoon duas we are taught to recite is:<\/p>\n

All praise is due to Allah Ta\u2018ala<\/em>\u00a0who granted us life after death and to Him alone will we be returned.<\/em>[2]<\/sup><\/p>\n

In this dua, we are reminded that through awakening from our sleep, Allah Ta\u2018ala has once again granted us the opportunity of life.<\/p>\n

Likewise, we are also reminded of our resurrection on the Day of Qiyaamah. In other words, we are taught that we should take this new day in our life as a blessing and bounty from Allah Ta\u2018ala and use it to prepare for the Day of Judgment.<\/p>\n

Sunnats and Aadaab of Awakening<\/b><\/span><\/h3>\n

1. As soon as you awake from your sleep, rub your face and eyes with both your palms in order to remove the effects of sleep.[3]<\/sup><\/p>\n

2. Upon awakening, recite the dua:<\/p>\n

Hazrat Aaishah (radhiyallahu \u2018anha) reports that whenever Nabi (sallallahu \u2018alaihi wasallam)\u00a0 awoke during the day or night, he would use the miswaak before performing wudhu<\/em>.<\/p>\n

Note:<\/strong>\u00a0It should be borne in mind that the use of the miswaak upon awakening is a separate sunnah and using the miswaak at the time of wudhu is a separate sunnah. Hence, if one does not intend making wudhu to perform salaah upon awakening from one\u2019s sleep (or a woman is in menses), then one should use the miswaak upon awakening. However, if one makes wudhu immediately upon awakening and uses the miswaak during the wudhu, then using the miswaak during the wudhu will suffice on behalf of both sunnahs.[7]<\/sup><\/p>\n
