It is not permissible to go to the home of a kaafir who has passed away for ta\u2019ziyat while the funeral proceedings are taking place.[1]<\/sup> However, on meeting a kaafir neighbour or any other kaafir who has lost a family member e.g. a child, one may console him in the following words:<\/p>\n

2. Assist the bereaved by sending food to their home. Hazrat Rasulullah (sallallahu \u2018alaihi wasallam) has taught the Sahaabah (radhiyallahu \u2018anhum) to express sympathies with the bereaved and assist them at the time of their grief and sorrow. Hazrat Rasulullah (sallallahu \u2018alaihi wasallam) encouraged the Sahaabah (radhiyallahu \u2018anhum) to prepare food and send it for the family, as dealing with the tragedy will make it difficult for them to see to their own needs.[3]<\/sup><\/p>\n

Hazrat Abdullah bin Ja\u2019far (radhiyallahu \u2018anhuma) narrates, \u201cWhen the news of the demise of Ja\u2019far (radhiyallahu \u2018anhu) arrived (i.e. the news of his martyrdom in the Battle of Mu\u2019tah), Rasulullah (sallallahu \u2018alaihi wasallam) said (to the Sahaabah (radhiyallahu \u2018anhum)), \u2018Prepare food for the family of Ja\u2019far (radhiyallahu \u2018anhu), as a tragedy has befallen them which has occupied them (from seeing to their needs).<\/em>\u2019\u201d<\/p>\n

3. Shari\u2019ah has not specified any particular type or colour of clothing that should be worn by the bereaved.[4]<\/sup><\/p>\n

4. The custom of visitors coming on the seventh day, tenth day and fortieth day for \u201ckhatam\u201d etc. are innovations and should be discarded.[5]<\/sup><\/p>\n

5 .Meals should not be served at the home of the deceased to those who come for ta\u2019ziyah. Serving meals at the home is an innovatory practice.[5]<\/sup><\/p>\n

6. It is impermissible to hire a person to recite a portion of the Quraan Majeed and convey the reward to the deceased.[6]<\/sup><\/p>\n
