Islam is the most comprehensive and perfect way of life which has taken every need of man into consideration. It has not only shown the path of peace during a person\u2019s life, but has also shown how to show love and peace after a person\u2019s demise. Hence, Hazrat Rasulullah (sallallahu \u2018alaihi wasallam) had, through his sublime teachings and by way of his blessed example, showed the Ummah how to console and comfort the bereaved who are in distress.<\/p>\n

Hazrat Rasulullah (sallallahu \u2018alaihi wasallam) said, \u201cThe one who consoles a person in distress will receive a reward similar to that of the bereaved (i.e. the reward the bereaved receives for adopting sabr in his difficulty).\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n

In another Hadith, Hazrat Rasulullah (sallallahu \u2018alaihi wasallam) said, \u201cThere is no believer who consoles his fellow Muslim brother at the time of some difficulty except that Allah Ta\u2018ala will clothe him in garments of honour on the Day of Qiyaamah.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n

Sunnats and Aadaab of Visiting The Bereaved<\/strong><\/p>\n

1. Ta\u2019ziat means sharing condolences with the bereaved and sympathizing with them over the loss of their near and dear one. This will be done by making dua for the deceased in the presence of the family. Similarly, this will be done by making dua for the family, asking Allah Ta\u2018ala to bless them with patience during this test.[2]<\/sup><\/p>\n

2. One may make dua in the following words, \u201cMay Allah Ta\u2018ala grant the deceased (brother, father, etc.) the highest stages in Jannah and forgive his sins,\u201d and \u201cMay Allah Ta\u2018ala grant the family sabr-e-jameel (a beautiful patience).\u201d<\/p>\n

3. It is desirable for the family and friends of the deceased to comfort the relatives of the deceased. However, the laws of purdah should be maintained between men and women at the time of ta\u2019ziyat. [3]<\/sup><\/p>\n

4. When making ta\u2019ziyat, ensure that you do not cause any inconvenience to the bereaved.<\/p>\n

5. Do not add to the sorrows of the family by making inappropriate statements or asking improper questions such as enquiring from the close family members regarding the details of the final illness or circumstances of death.[4]<\/sup><\/p>\n

6. Share condolences and refrain from laughing and joking.<\/p>\n
