Formula for Forgiveness of Sins and Earning Lofty Ranks

عن أبي هريرة رضي الله عنه أن رسول الله صلى الله عليه و سلم قال ألا أدلكم على ما يمحو الله به الخطايا ويرفع به الدرجات ؟ قالوا بلى يا رسول الله قال إسباغ الوضوء على المكاره وكثرة الخطا إلى المساجد وانتظار الصلاة بعد الصلاة فذلكم الرباط. (ترمذي 1/18)

Hadhrat Abu Sa’eed (Radhiyallahu Anhu) reports that he heard Rasulullah (Salallahu Alaihi Wasallam) saying: ‘Should I not inform you of a way through which you will gain forgiveness for your sins and earn lofty ranks in the hereafter from the side of Allah Ta’aala?’ The Sahaaba (Radhiyallahu Anhum) exclaimed: ‘Certainly inform us, O Rasulullah (Salallahu Alaihi Wasallam).’ Nabi (Salallahu Alaihi Wasallam) then said: ‘Perform a perfect wudhu despite it being difficult, excessively walk to the Masaajid, and after the completion of one salaah, remain in anticipation and hope for the next salaah. This is (like) securing the Islamic frontiers. (i.e. holding firm to these three actions will be the means of securing oneself against his enemy, (nafs and shaytaan) in the manner that the Islamic frontiers are secured through the Muslim warriors.)'  

Expiation of Sins

عن عثمان بن عفان رضى الله عنه قال قال رسول الله صلى الله عليه وسلم من توضأ فأحسن الوضوء خرجت خطاياه من جسده حتى تخرج من تحت أظفاره. (مسلم 255pg. )

Hadhrat Uthmaan (Radhiyallahu Anhu) reports that Rasulullah (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam) said: “Whoever performs a perfect wudhu, his (minor) sins are removed and washed away from his body to the extent that they fall away from beneath his fingernails.”

عن ابى هريرة رضى الله عنه أن رسول الله صلى الله عليه و سلم خرج الى المقبرة فقال السلام عليكم دار قوم مؤمنين وإنا إن شاء الله بكم لاحقون وددت أنى قد رأيت إخواننا قالوا يا رسول الله ألسنا إخوانك قال بل انتم أصحابى و إخوانى الذين لم يأتوا بعد وأنا فرطهم على الحوض قالوا يا رسول الله كيف تعرف من يأتى بعدك من امّتك قال أرأيت لو كان لرجل خيل غرّ محجّلة فى خيل بهم دهم ألا يعرف خيله قالوا بلى قال فانهم يأتون يوم القيامة غرّا محجّلين من الوضوء و أنا فرطهم على الحوض. (نسأئى 35pg.)

Hadhrat Abu Hurayrah (Radhiyallahu Anhu) reports that Rasulullah (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam) once entered the graveyard and recited the following Du’aa:

السلام عليكم دار قوم مؤمنين وإنا إن شاء الله بكم لاحقون

“O (inmates of) the resting abode of the believers, may peace descend upon you from the side of Allah Ta’ala, Insha Allah soon we will be joining you.”

Nabi (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam) then said: “I wish I had met our brothers.” The Sahaabah (Radhiyallahu Anhum) enquired: “Are we not your brothers, O Rasulullah (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam)?” Nabi (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam) replied: “You are (not only my brothers), instead you are my companions (as well). My brothers are those who have not yet come in the world (i.e. they will still be born and appear in the world after my demise), and I will be their farat (i.e. the one who will precede them to their abode of the hereafter in order to arrange for their comfort), and I will meet them at the haudh of Kauthar. (where they will have the honour of being served water by Rasulullah (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam).” The Sahaabah (Radhiyallahu Anhum) further enquired: “How will you recognize those of your followers who come after you (at the Haudh of Kauthar)?” Nabi (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam) said (explaining to the Sahaabah through an example): “If a person owns black horses whose foreheads and feet are white and they are mixed with completely black horses, will he not recognize his own horses from among them?” The Sahaabah (Radhiallahu Anhum) replied: “Certainly he will recognize them, O Rasulullah (Salallahu Alaihi Wasallam).” Nabi (Salallahu Alaihi Wasallam) replied: “They (my followers) will come on the day of Qiyaamah with their foreheads and limbs illuminated with noor on account of their wudhu and I will precede them (in going to the aakhirat) and serve them water at the haudh of Kauthar.”

عن أبي هريرة  رضى الله عنه قال قال رسول الله صلى الله عليه وسلم اذا توضأ العبد المسلم أو المؤمن فغسل وجهه خرجت من وجهه كل خطبئة نظر اليها بعينيه مع الماء أو مع آخر قطر الماء أو نحو هذا و اذا غسل يديه خرجت من يديه كل خطيئة بطشتها يداه مع الماء او مع آخر قطر الماء حتى يخرج نقيا من الذنوب. (ترمذى 1/4)

Hadhrat Abu Hurayrah (Radhiyallahu Anhu) reports that Rasulullah (Salallahu Alaihi Wasallam) said: When a believer performs wudhu, at the time he washes his face, then with the last drop of water all the (minor) sins committed with his eyes are washed away and completely removed; and at the time he washes his hands then with the last drop of water, every (minor) sin committed with his hands is washed away and completely removed, until he is entirely cleansed from all (minor) sins upon the completion of wudhu.

عن ابْنِ عَبّاسٍ رَضِيَ اللهُ عَنْهُما أَنَّ رَسُوْلَ اللهِ صَلَّى الله عليه و سلم قَالَ: طَهِّرُوْا هذِهِ الْأجْسَادَ طَهَّرَكُمُ اللهُ فَإنَّهُ لَيْسَ مِنْ عَبْدٍ يَبِيْتُ طَاهِرًا إلاّ بَاتَ فِي شِعَارِهِ مَلَكٌ لاَيَنْقَلِبُ سَاعَةً مِنَ اللَيْلِ إلاَّ قَالَ : اللّهُمَّ اغْفِرْ لِعَبْدِكَ فَإنَّهُ بَاتَ طَاهِرًا (رواه الطّبراني في الأوسط رقم 5087 )

Hadhrat Abdullah bin `Abbaas (Radhiyallahu Anhu) reports that Rasulullah (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam) said, “Maintain cleanliness in regard to your bodies and Allah Ta’ala will purify you. Indeed whichever person sleeps in the state of wudhu, an angel (is appointed) to spend the night with him. If at any part of the night he turns (changes his sleeping posture), the angel makes duaa for him in the following words: O Allah! Forgive your servant for indeed he had retired to bed in the state of wudhu.”
