عن عبد  الله رضي الله عنه عن النبي صلى الله عليه وسلم قال : البادئ بالسلام بريء من الكبر. رواه البيهقي في شعب الإيمان (6/433)

Hadhrat Abdullah ibn Mas’ood (Radhiyallahu Anhu) relates that Rasulullah (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam) has said: “The one who makes salaam first is free from pride.”

عن علي رضي الله عنه قال قال رسول الله صلى الله عليه وسلم : للمسلم على المسلم ست بالمعروف يسلم عليه إذا لقيه ويجيبه إذا دعاه ويشمته إذا عطس ويعوده إذا مرض ويتبع جنازته إذا مات ويحب له ما يحب لنفسه. ( الترمذي 2/98)

Hadhrat Ali (Radhiyallahu Anhu) reports that Rasulullah (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam) said: "A Muslim has six rights over his Muslim brother. When he meets him he should greet him (with salaam); if he invites him he should accept his invitation; when he sneezes (and says Alhamdulillah) he should reply to his sneeze by saying ‘Yarhamukallah’; when he falls ill he should visit him; when he passes away he should attend his Janaazah; and he should love for him what he loves for himself."

 

Prescription to Create Mutual Love

عن أبي هريرة قال قال رسول الله صلى الله عليه وسلم : لا تدخلون الجنة حتى تؤمنوا ولا تؤمنوا حتى تحابوا أو لا أدلكم على شيء إذا فعلمتموه تحاببتم ؟ أفشوا السلام بينكم. رواه (رواه الترمذي 2/93)

Hadhrat Abu Hurayrah (Radhiyallahu Anhu) reports that Rasulullah (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam) said: "You will not enter Paradise until you bring Imaan; and you cannot acquire perfect Imaan until you possess mutual love. Should I not show you a method whereby you will inculcate among yourselves mutual love? Make salaam a common practice amongst yourselves (at the time of meeting each other)."

Greeting Strangers

عن عبد الله بن عمرو رضي الله عنه أن رجلا سأل رسول الله صلى الله عليه وسلم : أي الإسلام خير ؟ قال تطعم الطعام وتقرأ السلام على من عرفت ومن لم تعرف. (بخاري 1/6)

Hadhrat Abdullah ibn Amr (Radhiyallahu Anhu) reports that a man once asked Rasulullah (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam): “Which feature and etiquette of Islam is highly commendable and meritorious?” Rasulullah (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam) replied: “Feeding the creation and greeting the people with salaam whether you know them or not.”

Bring Blessings to Your Home

عن أنس بن مالك رضي الله عنه قال : قال لي رسول الله صلى الله عليه و سلم يا بني إذا دخلت على أهلك فسلم يكون بركة عليك وعلى أهل بيتك (ترمذي 2/99)

Hadhrat Anas (Radhiyallahu Anhu) reports that Rasulullah (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam) once said to me: "O my beloved son, upon entering your home, greet your family (i.e. the inmates of the home) with salaam. This will be a means of earning blessings for yourself and your family."
