The Humility of Rasulullah (sallallahu alaihi wasallam)

عن عائشة قالت سئلت ما كان رسول الله صلى الله عليه وسلم يعمل في بيته قالت كان بشرا من البشر يفلي ثوبه ويحلب شاته ويخدم نفسه  (مسند أحمد رقم 26194)

Hazrat Aaisha (Radhiyallahu Anha) was once asked:What would Rasulullah (sallallahu alaihi wasallam) do within the home?” She replied: “He was a man from among the men. He would inspect his clothing in order to see if there were lice on it, he would milk his goats, and fulfil all his worldly tasks by himself.”

‘He was a man from among the men’ means that- despite him being the greatest of Allah Ta’ala’s creation-, he would not consider himself to be different from others. Rather, he would humbly carry out the household chores and fulfil his worldly needs by himself in the manner the other Sahaabah conducted within their homes.

Hazrat Shaikh Moulana Muhammad Zakariyya  (Rahmatullahi Alaih) mentioned: “Rasulullah (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam) did not have any pride in him nor did he feel it below his dignity to do the household chores or fulfil his worldly needs by himself.”

In the above Hadith it is mentioned that he would inspect his clothing for lice. The research of the Ulema is that lice was not found on the mubaarak body and clothing of Rasulullah (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam). Therefore here it will mean that he inspected his clothing for lice which could have come on his clothing from another person. The Ulema say that this was done to teach the ummah to remain clean at all times.

Receiving Seventy Rewards

Hazrat Abdullah bin Amr bin Aas (radhiyallahu ‘anhuma) reported, “Whoever sends salutations upon Nabi (sallallahu ‘alaihi wasallam) once, Allah Ta‘ala and His angels will send seventy mercies and blessings upon him in return of his one Durood. Hence, whoever wishes to increase his Durood should increase it, and whoever wishes to decrease his Durood should decrease it (i.e. if he wants to earn great rewards, then he should increase his Durood).”
