Durood – Ihyaaud Deen https://ihyaauddeen.co.za An Effort to Revive Deen in Totality Thu, 17 Feb 2022 13:38:47 +0000 en-US hourly 1 https://wordpress.org/?v=6.4.2 The Practice of Eighty Durood After Asr on Friday https://ihyaauddeen.co.za/?p=10118 Thu, 21 Dec 2017 04:46:50 +0000 http://ihyaauddeen.co.za/?p=10118 Reciting Durood upon Rasulullah ﷺ is regarded as being among the greatest ibaadaat in Deen through which one may acquire the divine love of Allah Ta’ala and the special closeness of His beloved Rasulullah ﷺ. Rasulullah ﷺ said, “Indeed, the people who will be closest to me on the day of Qiyaamah will be those who used to recite the most Durood upon me in the world.”

In his Mubaarak Ahaadith, Rasulullah ﷺ has encouraged his Ummah to recite abundant Durood upon him and he has explained that through reciting Durood, they will receive great virtues and blessings from Allah Ta’ala.

It has been the practice of many Akaabir and pious elders to recite the eighty Durood after Asr on Friday. This practice was always understood to have been based upon the Hadith of Hazrat Abu Hurairah (Radiyallahu Anhu) wherein he had reported that Rasulullah ﷺ had said, “The one who performs Asr Salaah on Friday and thereafter recites eighty times before standing up from his place اللهم صل على محمد النبي الأمي وعلى آله وسلم تسليماً, eighty years of sins are forgiven for him and eighty years of (nafl) ibaadat are written for him”. However, there has lately been some discussion among the Ulama regarding whether this practice is established and whether this Durood should be recited.

This book provides insight into this issue and expels the doubts that people have regarding this practice being an innovation in Deen.

I begin in the name of Allah Ta’ala, and may peace descend upon the Messenger of Allah Ta’ala.

Hadhrat Talha (Radhiyallahu Anhu) in the Battle of Uhud

Hadhrat Zubayr bin Awwaam (Radhiallahu Anhu) reports that Rasulullah (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam) wore two suits of armour on his mubaarak body in the battle of Uhud. Rasulullah (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam) intended climbing a rock during the battle, but was unable to do so. He therefore requested Hadhrat Talha (Radhiallahu Anhu) to sit down. Rasulullah (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam) placed his mubaarak foot on the back of Hadhrat Talha (Radhiallahu Anhu) and ascended the rock. Hadhrat Zubayr (Radhiallahu Anhu) says that I heard Rasulullah (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam) at that time say: “It has become waajib for Talha (i.e. Jannah has become waajib for Talha (Radhiallahu Anhu) on account of him lowering himself before Rasulullah (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam) and assisting him).”

In the battle of Uhud, Hadhrat Talha (Radhiallahu Anhu) remained beside Sayyidina Rasulullah (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam) protecting him from the kuffaar. Whenever the Sahaabah (Radhiallahu Anhum) discussed the battle of Uhud, they would say that the day of Uhud was indeed the day of Hadhrat Talha (Radhiallahu Anhu). Hadhrat Talha (Radhiallahu Anhu) shielded Sayyidina Rasulullah (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam) with his body. He received more than eighty wounds on his body, yet he did not leave the side of Sayyidina Rasulullah (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam), even though his hand had become paralyzed. (Shamaail Tirmizi with Khasaail Nabawi)

Travelling for a Single Hadith

Kathir bin Qais narrates: “I was once sitting with Hadhrat Abu Darda (Radhiyallaho anho) in a musjid in Damascus, when a person came to him and said, O Hadhrat Abu Darda (Radhiyallaho anho), I have travelled all the way from Madinah  Tayyibah to acquire one Hadith from you, as I have learnt that you have heard it directly from Sayyidina Rasulullah (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam).”

Hadhrat Abu Darda (Radhiyallaho anho) asked: “Do you have any other work in Damascus?” The person replied: “No.” (i.e. I have only come to Damascus to acquire the Hadith.) Hadhrat Abu Darda (Radhiyallaho anho) asked again: “Are you sure that you have no other work in Damascus?” The person again replied: “I have come to this place with the sole purpose of learning this Hadith.” Hadhrat Abu Darda (Radhiyallaho anho) then said: “Listen, I have heard Sayyidina Rasulullah (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam) saying, ‘Allah Ta’ala eases the way to Paradise for the one who traverses some distance to seek knowledge. The angels spread their wings under his feet, and all the things in the heavens and the earth (even the fish in the water) make duaa to Allah Ta’ala for his forgiveness. The superiority and high rank of a person possessing Deeni knowledge over a person engaged in worship (without having Deeni knowledge) is like the superiority of the moon over the stars. The Ulama are the inheritors of Sayyidina Rasulullah (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam). The legacy of Ambiyaa (Alaihimus salaam) is neither gold nor silver. Rather, their legacy is the knowledge of Deen. A person who acquires Deeni knowledge has certainly acquired great wealth.”  (Fazaail Aamaal)

Hadhrat Abu Hurairah (Radhiyallahu Anhu)

Hadhrat Abu Hurairah (Radhiyallahu Anhu) is a famous Sahaabi of Sayyidina Rasulullah (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam). No other Sahaabi has narrated as many Ahadith as he has done. He embraced Islam in 7 A.H. and since Sayyidina Rasulullah (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam) passed away in 11 A.H., he had been with him for only four years. People used to marvel how he could remember so many Ahaadith in such a short period. He explains this himself, saying: “People wonder how I narrate so many Ahaadith. The fact is that my Muhajir brothers remained busy in trade and my Ansaar brothers did their farming, while I was always with Sayyidina Rasulullah (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam). I was among the people of Suffah. I was not concerned of earning livelihood and constantly remained with Sayyidina Rasulullah (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam) being content with whatever little food I received. I would be with Sayyidina Rasulullah (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam) at times when no one else was there. I once complained to Sayyidina Rasulullah (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam) about my poor memory. He said to me, ‘Spread out your shawl.’ I immediately did so. He thereafter made some signs with his mubaarak hands on my shawl and said, ‘Now wrap this shawl around you.’ I wrapped it around my chest. Since then, I have not forgotten anything that I have wished to remember.” (Fazaail Aamaal)

Hadhrat Bilaal (Radhiallahu Anhu) returns to Madinah Tayyibah

After Sayyidina Rasulullah (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam) passed away, it became extremely difficult for Hadhrat Bilaal (Radhiallahu Anhu) to remain in Madinah Tayyibah.  This was on account of the deep love he possessed for Sayyidina Rasulullah (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam). Remaining in Madinah Munawwara caused him to remember Sayyidina Rasulullah (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam) at every step and every corner. He therefore left Madinah Tayyibah, and decided to pass the rest of his life striving in the path of Allah Ta’ala. Once he saw Sayyidina Rasulullah (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam) in his dream saying to him: “O Bilaal, why is it that you do not visit me?”

He immediately set out for Madinah Tayyibah. On reaching there, Hadhrat Hasan and Hadhrat Husain (Radhiyallaho Anhuma), the grandchildren of Sayyidina Rasulullah (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam) requested him to call out the Azaan. He could not refuse them, for they were very dear and beloved to him. As soon as the Azaan was called, the people of Madinah Tayyibah cried openly in remembrance of the time of Sayyidina Rasulullah (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam).  Hadhrat Bilal (Radhiyallahu Anhu) left Madinah Tayyibah again after a few days and passed away in Damascus in the year 20 A.H. Hadhrat Umme Sulaym (Radhiallahu Anha) and the Mubaarak Perspiration

Hadhrat Umme Sulaym (Radhiallahu Anha) (who was a mahram of Rasulullah (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam) narrates that once Rasulullah (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam) visited her, and took his afternoon rest (qayloola) at her home. Whilst sleeping, Rasulullah (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam) began perspiring. She narrates that she took a small bottle and began collecting his blessed perspiration. Rasulullah (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam) awoke and asked her what she was doing. She informed Rasulullah (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam) that she was collecting his blessed perspiration, as there was no fragrance sweeter than it. Rasulullah (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam) permitted her and did not disapprove of this action. (Muslim)

The Response of Hadhrat Zaid bin Dathina (radhiyallahu ‘anhu)

When the disbelievers were about to execute the great Sahaabi, Zaid bin Dathina (radhiyallahu ‘anhu), they asked him: “Would you be happier if Muhammad (sallallahu ‘alaihi wasallam) was in your place and you were left free to be with your family?” His spontaneous response was: “By Allah, I cannot even bear that I be sitting comfortably with my family while even a thorn is pricking Rasulullah (sallallahu ‘alaihi wasallam).”On this, Abu Sufyaan remarked: “There is no parallel anywhere in the world to the love which the companions of Muhammad (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam) have for him.” (Fazaail Aamaal)

Hadhrat Abu Bakr Siddeeq (Radhiallahu Anhu) in the cave of Thaur

While in the cave on the journey of Hijrah, it is reported that Hadhrat Abu Bakr Siddeeq (Radhiallahu Anhu) was concerned that no creature come out from any hole in the cave and harm Rasulullah (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam). Thus, he began closing all the holes found inside the cave with pieces of his lower garment. However, there were still two holes which he was unable to close (due to insufficient clothing), so Hadhrat Abu Bakr Siddeeq (Radhiallahu Anhu) placed his both feet in those holes. Thereafter, Rasulullah (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam) placed his mubaarak head on the lap of Hadhrat Abu Bakr Siddeeq (Radhiallahu Anu) and fell asleep. While Rasulullah (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam) was asleep, Hadhrat Abu Bakr Siddeeq (Radhiallahu Anhu) perceived a bite under his foot by a snake in the hole. Not wishing to inconvenience and disturb the sleep of Rasulullah (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam) in the least, Hadhrat Abu Bakr Siddeeq (Radhiallahu Anhu) bore the pain and did not move an inch. However, being in excruciating pain and not being able to withstand the effects, uncontrollably tears began to roll down the face of Hadhrat Abu Bakr Siddeeq (Radhiallahu Anhu) and fell on the mubaarak countenance of Rasulullah (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam). Rasulullah (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam) suddenly awoke and asked: “What has happened, O Abu Bakr?” Hadhrat Abu Bakr Siddeeq (Radhiallahu Anhu) replied: “I have been bitten, may my parents be sacrificed for you, O Rasulullah (sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam).” Rasulullah (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam) placed his mubaarak saliva on the affected area, and the pain immediately subsided. (Mishkaatul Masaabeeh)

Hazrat Abu Bakr (radhiyallahu ‘anhu) Giving Milk to Hazrat Rasulullah (sallallahu ‘alaihi wasallam)

Hazrat Abu Bakr Siddeeq (radhiyallahu ‘anhu) relates regarding the journey of hijrah with Hazrat Rasulullah (sallallahu ‘alaihi wasallam):

We travelled hastily the entire day and night until the afternoon heat became intense. I then found the road to be empty and no one was walking on it, I looked ahead to see whether I could find any shade so that we could take shelter in it. I then spotted a cave in which we could take refuge and seek shelter from the heat. I then said, “O Rasulullah (sallallahu ‘alaihi wasallam), remain outside the cave and allow me to enter so that if there is any harmful creature in the cave, it will harm me and not you.”

After entering the cave, I began cleaning it and spread out a cloth upon which Rasulullah (sallallahu ‘alaihi wasallam) could lie down. I then requested him to enter and take a rest and he acceded to my request.

Once Rasulullah (sallallahu ‘alaihi wasallam) lay down to rest, I went to see whether I could spot anyone who was searching for us. I then spotted a slave shepherd who was herding goats nearby and asked him who his owner was. He named a man from Makkah whom I knew. (As it was a prevalent custom at that time that people would allow travellers and wayfarers to benefit from the milk from their flock, Hazrat Abu Bakr Siddeeq (radhiyallahu ‘anhu) requested for some milk and the following dialogue ensued):

Hazrat Abu Bakr Siddeeq (radhiyallahu ‘anhu): “Do any of the goats have milk?”

The shepherd: “Yes.”

Hazrat Abu Bakr Siddeeq (radhiyallahu ‘anhu): “Will you milk some for me?”

He agreed, and milked one of the goats for me and poured it into my container. I added some water to the milk to cool the hot milk. I then took the milk to present it to Rasulullah (sallallahu ‘alaihi wasallam). As I approached Rasulullah (sallallahu ‘alaihi wasallam), I found him awake. I said, “Partake of this, O Rasulullah (sallallahu ‘alaihi wasallam).” The sight of Rasulullah (sallallahu ‘alaihi wasallam) relishing the milk brought extreme joy and happiness to my heart.” (Saheeh Bukhaari #3615, Saheeh Muslim # 3014)

The Love of Hazrat Abu Bakr Siddeeq (radhiyallahu ‘anhu) for Hazrat Rasulullah (sallallahu ‘alaihi wasallam)

Rasulullah (sallallahu ‘alaihi wasallam) and Hazrat Abu Bakr Siddeeq (radhiyallahu ‘anhu) set out for the hijrah early at night. During the journey, at times Hazrat Abu Bakr Siddeeq (radhiyallahu ‘anhu) walked ahead of Hazrat Rasulullah (sallallahu ‘alaihi wasallam), and at times behind. At times, he walked on the right of Hazrat Rasulullah (sallallahu ‘alaihi wasallam) and at times, on the left.

When Hazrat Rasulullah (sallallahu ‘alaihi wasallam) noticed this peculiar behaviour, he asked, “O Abu Bakr! I see you moving in front of me or behind me at times and beside me at times. What prompts you to behave in this way?” Hazrat Abu Bakr Siddeeq (radhiyallahu ‘anhu) replied, “Whenever the thought of the enemy pursuing you from the back occurs to me, I move swiftly towards the back, and whenever the fear overcomes me of the enemy waiting ahead in ambush, then I rush ahead of you. Likewise, when the thought crosses my mind of the enemy attacking from the right or left, then I move in that direction.”

Hazrat Rasulullah (sallallahu ‘alaihi wasallam) then said, “O Abu Bakr! Do you prefer that your life be sacrificed for me?” Hazrat Abu Bakr Siddeeq (radhiyallahu ‘anhu) replied, “Most definitely O Messenger of Allah, I swear by the Being who has sent you with the truth of Islam!” (Mustadrak lil Haakim #4268)

Giving Preference to the neighbours of Rasulullah (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam)

Imaam Maalik (Rahmatullahi Alaihi) used to commence teaching the students of Hadith and those residing in Madinah Munawwarah before teaching others. When he was asked the reason for showing preference to the students of hadith and the people of Madinah, he exclaimed: “These are the neighbours of Rasulullah (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam).” (Muqaddamah of Awjaz pg. 78)

The Respect of Imaam Maalik (rahimahullah)

Imaam Maalik (rahimahullah) possessed great love for the land of Madinah Munawwarah. This love was on account of the love he had for Hazrat Rasulullah (sallallahu ‘alaihi wasallam).

Allaamah Ibnu Khallikaan (rahimahullah) writes:

Imaam Maalik (rahimahullah) never rode a conveyance in the blessed city of Madinah Munawwarah. Even at the time when he grew old and became extremely weak, he preferred to walk rather than being transported by a conveyance. When Imaam Maalik (rahimahullah) was asked the reason, he mentioned, “I feel extremely difficult to ride on a conveyance in the mubaarak city of Madinah Munawwarah, whereas Rasulullah (sallallahu ‘alaihi wasallam) is buried beneath the ground.” (Wafayatul A’ayaan 4/136)

The Life and Wealth of Hadhrat Abu Bakr (Radhiallahu Anhu)

Hadhrat Abu Hurayrah (Radhiallahu Anhu) reports that Rasulullah (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam) said: No person’s wealth benefitted me as much as the wealth of Hadhrat Abu Bakr Siddeeq (Radhiallahu Anhu). Upon hearing this, Hadhrat Abu Bakr Siddeeq (Radhiallahu Anhu) wept profusely and said, “O Rasulullah (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam), certainly my entire life and wealth belongs to you.”

Love for Rasulullah (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam)

During the battle of Badr, Hadhrat Abu Bakr Siddeeq (Radhiallahu Anhu)’s son, Hadhrat Abdur Rahmaan, fought on the side of the disbelievers as he had not yet accepted Islam. Later, after embracing Islam, whilst seated with his father Hadhrat Abu Bakr Siddeeq (Radhiallahu Anhu), he exclaimed, “O my beloved father, during the battle of Badr, you came under my sword a few times. However, considering you being my father, I spared you.” Hadhrat Abu Bakr Siddeeq (Radhiallahu Anhu) spontaneously responded, “Had you only come under my sword during the battle, I would have never spared you, as you were fighting against Rasulullah (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam).”  (Taarikhul Khulafaa)

Hazrat Abu Bakr (radhiyallahu ‘anhu) once addressed Hazrat Rasulullah (sallallahu ‘alaihi wasallam) saying, “Though I am happy that my father embraced Islam, the happiness I would have experienced with the Islam of your uncle, Abu Taalib, would have been far greater. The Deep love of the Sahaabah for Rasulullah (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam)

Once a person came to Rasulullah (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam) and said: O Rasulullah (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam), my love for you is such that when I think of you, I am overwhelmed with your love, to the extent that I do not find any satisfaction until I see you. O Rasulullah (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam), the thought crosses my heart that if Allah Ta’ala has to bless me with Paradise, it will be very difficult for me to see you, for you will be in a lofty position high above where I will not be able to reach.”

Rasulullah (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam) consoled him by reciting the following verse in his reply:

وَمَن يُطِعِ اللَّـهَ وَالرَّسولَ فَأُولـٰئِكَ مَعَ الَّذينَ أَنعَمَ اللَّـهُ عَلَيهِم مِنَ النَّبِيّينَ وَالصِّدّيقينَ وَالشُّهَداءِ وَالصّالِحينَ وَحَسُنَ أُولـٰئِكَ رَفيقًا ﴿٦٩﴾

And those who obey Allah Ta’ala and the messenger are in the company of those whom Allah Ta’ala has favoured, the Ambiyaa, the Siddeeqeen, the martyrs, and the Righteous.

The Sacrifice of the Sahaabah for Rasulullah (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam)

Hadhrat Fatimah’s (Radhiyallahu Anha) house was a distance away from the house of Rasulullah (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam). Rasulullah (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam) once said to her: “It is my desire that you live near me.” Hadhrat Fatimah (Radhiyallahu Anha) replied: “Harithah's house is close to your house. If you ask him to exchange his house with mine, he will happily accept.” Rasulullah (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam) replied: “He has already exchanged once on my request. I feel shy to request him a second time.”

However Harithah (Radhiyallahu Anhu) somehow came to know that Rasulullah (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam) is desirous that Hadhrat Fatimah (Radhiyallahu Anha) live close to him. He at once came to Rasulullah (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam) and said: O Rasulullah (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam), I have come to know that you wish for Fatimah (Radhiyallahu Anha) to live near you. Here are my houses at your disposal. No other house is closer to yours than these houses of mine. Fatimah (Radhiyallahu Anha) can have her house exchanged with any of my houses. O Rasulullah (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam), what you accept from me is dearer to me than what you leave for me.” Rasulullah (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam) accepted the offer saying: “I know that you are sincere in what you say”, and Rasulullah (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam) made duaa for him. During the battle of Uhud, Hazrat Rasulullah (sallallahu ‘alaihi wasallam) inquired, “Where is Sa’d bin Rabee? I do not know of his condition.” Thereafter, one of the Sahaabah (radhiyallahu ‘anhum) was sent to search for him. He went to the spot where the bodies of the martyrs were laying.

He shouted Hazrat Sa’d’s (radhiyallahu ‘anhu)  name to see if he was alive. At one place, while he was announcing that he was deputed by Hazrat Rasulullah (sallallahu ‘alaihi wasallam) to enquire about Hazrat Sa’d bin Rabee (radhiyallahu ‘anhu), he heard a feeble voice coming from one direction. He turned to that direction and found that Hazrat Sa’d (radhiyallahu ‘anhu) was lying among the martyrs and was about to breathe his last.

Hazrat Sa’d (radhiyallahu ‘anhu) was heard saying, “Convey my salaam to Rasulullah (sallallahu ‘alaihi wasallam) with the following message, ‘O Rasulullah (sallallahu ‘alaihi wasallam), may Allah Ta‘ala grant you, on my behalf, a reward more exalted and more handsome than any reward that Allah Ta‘ala has ever granted a Messenger on behalf of any of his followers.’”

Thereafter, he said to the one who was sent to search for him, “Inform my Muslim brothers that nothing will absolve them from blame on the day of Qiyaamah if the enemy succeeds in reaching Rasulullah (sallallahu ‘alaihi wasallam) and killing him before all of them die.” With these words, Hazrat Sa’d (radhiyallahu ‘anhu) breathed his last and departed from the world. (Tareekh al-Tabari 2/528)

The Sahaabah (radhiyallahu ‘anhum) have given a true proof of their devotion to Hazrat Rasulullah (sallallahu ‘alaihi wasallam). While they suffered wound after wound and were on their last breath, they had no complaint nor wish on their lips and could not think of anything else except the safety and welfare of Hazrat Rasulullah (sallallahu ‘alaihi wasallam). May we be blessed with an atom of the true love that the Sahaabah (radhiyallahu ‘anhum) bore for Hazrat Rasulullah (sallallahu ‘alaihi wasallam).

Hazrat Anas bin Nadhr (radhiyallahu ‘anhu)’s Love for Hazrat Rasulullah (sallallahu ‘alaihi wasallam) and his Martyrdom in Uhud

When the Muslims were facing defeat in Uhud, the rumour began spreading that Hazrat Rasulullah (sallallahu ‘alaihi wasallam) had been killed. This news caused many of the Sahaabah (radhiyallahu ‘anhum) to despair and lose heart.

Hazrat Anas bin Nadhr (radhiyallahu ‘anhu) happened to see Hazrat Umar and Hazrat Talhah (radhiyallahu ‘anhuma) with a group of Sahaabah (radhiyallahu ‘anhum) in a state of utter grief and despondency. He said to them, “Why am I seeing you all so despondent and grieved?” They replied, “Rasulullah (sallallahu ‘alaihi wasallam) has been slain.”

Hazrat Anas (radhiyallahu ‘anhu) exclaimed, “Then who would like to live after him? Come, let us go forward with our swords and join our beloved, the Messenger (sallallahu ‘alaihi wasallam)!” No sooner did he utter these words than he plunged into the enemy lines and fought bravely till he was martyred.

Hazrat Anas (radhiyallahu ‘anhu) had such extreme love for Hazrat Rasulullah (sallallahu ‘alaihi wasallam) that he did not consider this life worth living without him. (Dalaailun Nubuwwah 3/245)

Hadhrat Abu Ubaidah (Radhiallahu Anhu) loses His Teeth.

During the battle of Uhud, Rasulullah (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam) was severely attacked by the enemy and two links of his helmet penetrated his mubaarak face. Hadhrat Abu Bakr Siddeeq (Radhiallahu Anhu) and Hadhrat Abu Ubaidah (Radhiallahu Anhu) immediately ran to assist Rasulullah (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam).

Hadhrat Abu Ubaidah (Radhiallahu Anhu) began pulling out the links with his teeth. By the time one of the links was removed, he had lost one of his teeth. Without minding this, he again used his teeth to pull out the other link as well. He succeeded in removing the other link, however in the process he lost another tooth. When the links were drawn out, the blood began to ooze out from the body of Rasulullah (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam). Hadhrat Malik bin Sinaan (Radhiallahu Anhu), the father of Hadhrat Abu Sa'eed Khudri (Radhiallahu Anhu), licked the blood with his lips. At this, Rasulullah (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam) remarked: “The fire of Hell cannot touch the person who has my blood mixed with his.” (Fazaail Aa’maal)

Love of Hazrat Uthmaan (radhiyallahu ‘anhu) for Hazrat Rasulullah (sallallahu ‘alaihi wasallam)

On the occasion of Hudaybiyah, Hazrat Uthmaan (radhiyallahu ‘anhu) was commissioned by Hazrat Rasulullah (sallallahu ‘alaihi wasallam) to negotiate with the Quraish in Makkah Mukarramah. When Hazrat Uthmaan (radhiyallahu ‘anhu) had left for Makkah Mukarramah, some of the Sahaabah (radhiyallahu ‘anhum) envied Hazrat Uthmaan (radhiyallahu ‘anhu) for being able to perform tawaaf of the House of Allah Ta‘ala. On the other hand, Hazrat Rasulullah (sallallahu ‘alaihi wasallam) remarked, “I do not think he will ever desire to perform tawaaf without me.”

When Hazrat Uthmaan (radhiyallahu ‘anhu) entered Makkah Mukarramah, Abaan bin Sa’eed took him into his protection and said to him, “You may move around freely wherever you wish. Nobody here can touch you.”

Hazrat Uthmaan (radhiyallahu ‘anhu) carried out his negotiations with Abu Sufyaan and the other chiefs of Makkah Mukarramah on behalf of Hazrat Rasulullah (sallallahu ‘alaihi wasallam), and when he was about to return, the Quraish themselves said to him, “Now when you are here in Makkah Mukarramah, you can perform tawaaf before you return.” Hazrat Uthmaan (radhiyallahu ‘anhu) replied, “How can it ever be possible for me to perform tawaaf (without Hazrat Rasulullah [sallallahu ‘alaihi wasallam])?”

This reply was most unpalatable for the Quraish and they decided to detain Hazrat Uthmaan (radhiyallahu ‘anhu) in Makkah Mukarramah. News had reached the Muslims that Hazrat Uthmaan (radhiyallahu ‘anhu) had been martyred. On this news reaching Hazrat Rasulullah (sallallahu ‘alaihi wasallam), he took the oath of allegiance from all the Sahaabah (radhiyallahu ‘anhum) to fight till the last drop of their blood. When the Quraish learnt of this, fear overcame them and they immediately released Hazrat Uthmaan (radhiyallahu ‘anhu). Kanzul Ummaal #30152, Musnad Ahmad #18910

Wearing the Pants above the Ankles

Once Suhail bin Hanzalah (Radhiallahu Anhu) mentioned: “On one occasion Rasulullah (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam) made mention of Hadhrat Khuraim Asadi (Radhiallahu Anhu) and said, “He is a good man except for two habits, viz. he keeps the hair of his head too long and he allows his izaar (lower garment) to go below his ankles. When Khuraim learnt of this, he immediately cut his hair up to his ears and began to keep his izaar up to the middle of the calf of his leg.” (Fazaail Aamaal)

Hazrat Waa’il (radhiyallahu ‘anhu) Has His Hair Cut

Hazrat Waa’il bin Hujar (radhiyallahu ‘anhu) says:

I once visited Rasulullah (sallallahu ‘alaihi wasallam) when the hair on my head was extremely long. While I was sitting with him, he uttered the words, “Zubaab, Zubaab” (meaning something evil). I thought that he was referring to my hair. I returned home and immediately had my hair cut.

The next day, when I went to visit him again, he said, “I was not referring to your hair when I uttered those words yesterday. Anyway, it is good that you had your hair cut.” (Sunan Abi Dawood #4190)

This action of this Sahaabi (radhiyallahu ‘anhu) reflects the true love he possessed for Hazrat Rasulullah (sallallahu ‘alaihi wasallam) within his heart. No sooner did he doubt that Hazrat Rasulullah (sallallahu ‘alaihi wasallam) was displeased with him on account of his long hair, he immediately had his hair cut. One can well imagine that if this was the level of the love they possessed, where just a mere doubt of Hazrat Rasulullah’s (sallallahu ‘alaihi wasallam) displeasure would make them uneasy, then could it have been possible for them to disobey the command of Hazrat Rasulullah (sallallahu ‘alaihi wasallam) or go against his mubaarak sunnah?

Sahaabah (radhiyallahu ‘anhum’s) Deep Love for Hazrat Rasulullah (sallallahu ‘alaihi wasallam)

When the treaty of Hudaybiyah was being negotiated, Urwah bin Mas’ood (radhiyallahu ‘anhu), an envoy of the Quraish (who at the time of the treaty of Hudaybiyyah had not yet embraced Islam), had an opportunity of witnessing the conduct of the Sahaabah (radhiyallahu ‘anhum) with Hazrat Rasulullah (sallallahu ‘alaihi wasallam). When he returned to his people, he said to them:

I have been to the courts of great kings and monarchs as an envoy. I have met the Emperors of Persia, Rome and Abyssinia. Nowhere have I seen people around a sovereign so respectful to him as I saw the companions of Muhammad (sallallahu ‘alaihi wasallam).

When he spits, his mubaarak saliva is not allowed to fall on the ground. It is taken by somebody in his hands to anoint his face and body therewith (in order to acquire blessings). When he issues some order, every person hastens to carry it out. When he makes wudhu, his companions race with one another to snatch the water trickling down from his limbs, in such a way that an observer would think they are going to fight over that water. When he speaks, everybody is silent (out of respect). Nobody raises his eyes to look at him, out of respect for him. (Saheeh Bukhari #2731)

An Ansari razes a building to the ground.

Rasulullah (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam) was once passing through a street of Madinah Munawwarah when he saw a building with a dome. He inquired from the Sahaabah, "What is this?" They informed him that it was a new building built by one of the Ansaar. Rasulullah (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam) remained silent. At another time, the Ansaari who had built that house came to Rasulullah (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam) and greeted him with salaam. Rasulullah (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam) turned his face away from him. He repeated the salaam, but Rasulullah (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam) again did not respond. This Sahaabi (Radhiallahu Anhu) was extremely concerned on account of Rasulullah (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam) not responding to his salaam. When he asked the Sahaabah, he was informed that Rasulullah (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam) passed by the new building he had constructed and inquired about it. He immediately went and razed the new building to the ground, and did not even inform Rasulullah (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam) about his action. Rasulullah (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam) happened to pass that way again. He inquired: “Where is that building with a dome that I remember seeing the last time we passed by this spot?”

The Sahabah informed him of the Ansaari razing it to the ground, as he felt that it was the cause of Rasulullah (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam’s) displeasure. Rasulullah (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam) at that juncture remarked. “Every structure (which is constructed without a real need) will be a burden for one, except that structure which is absolutely essential.”

The conduct of the Sahaabi exhibited true love and devotion. The Sahaabah could not bear the displeasure of Rasulullah (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam), and no sooner did they sense the displeasure of Rasulullah (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam) through any action, they immediately abandoned that action at all costs. Hazrat Abdullah bin Amr (radhiyallahu ‘anhuma) Burns His Sheet

Hazrat Abdullah bin Amr bin Aas (radhiyallahu ‘anhuma) says:

Once, we were accompanying Rasulullah (sallallahu ‘alaihi wasallam) on a journey. I went to see him and I was wearing a saffron coloured sheet. He asked me, “What is this that you are wearing?” I felt that he did not like my wearing a cloth of that colour. Hence, when I reached home and found a fire burning, I threw my garment into the fire.

The next day, when I went to Hazrat Rasulullah (sallallahu ‘alaihi wasallam), he inquired, “Where is that sheet?” On informing him of what I had done with it, he remarked, “You could have given it to one of the ladies in your house. Women are permitted to wear clothes of that colour.” (Sunan Abi Dawood #4066)

Hazrat Abdullah bin Amr bin Aas (radhiyallahu ‘anhuma) was so perturbed at Hazrat Rasulullah (sallallahu ‘alaihi wasallam)’s displeasure that he did not hesitate to avail of the first opportunity of doing away with the sheet that caused the displeasure. He did not even think of finding any other use for that garment. If we had been in his place, we would have thought of some excuse or the other for keeping it, or at least finding some other use for it.

The incident of Abu Imraan Waasity (Rahmatullahi Alaiahi)

Abu Imraan Waasity (Rahmatullahi Alaiahi) narrates: “Once I was on a journey towards Madinah Tayyibah, when along the way I felt such extreme thirst that I feared for my life. Fearing that death was about to overtake me, I sat down under a thorn tree. Suddenly a rider appeared before me on a green horse, with green reins and a green saddle. In his hand was a green glass with a greenish drink. I drank three times from that glass and not a drop became less in it. He then asked me where I was going to. I replied that I was proceeding to Madinah Munawwarah to convey my salaam to Nabi (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam) and his two companions. He then replied: “When you have reached Madinah Munawwarah and you have greeted them, then convey my salaam as well to Nabi (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam) and his two companions. Tell them that Ridwaan has conveyed his salaams. (Ridwaan is the angel who is the gatekeeper of Paradise) (Fazaail Madinah)

Seeking Freedom from the Fire of Jahannum

Once one Bedouin visited the grave of Rasulullah (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam) and said: “O Allah, You have commanded that slaves be set free. Here lies Your most beloved Messenger and here stands Your slave at the final resting place of Your Messenger. I beseech You, set free this humble slave from the fire of Hell.” From the unseen a voice was heard saying, “For yourself alone did you ask freedom, why not on behalf of all mankind? We have set you free from the fire of Jahannum.” (Fazaail Madinah)

A Benefit of Reciting Durood

In Roudhul Faa’iq, Sufyaan Thauri (Rahmatullahi Alaihi) relates: “Once when performing Tawaaf, I saw a man performing Tawaaf and throughout his entire Tawaaf , he was only reciting durood upon Rasulullah (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam). At every step of the Tawaaf he did not recite any tasbeeh, tahleel etc. besides durood. When I asked him the reason, he replied: “And who are you?” I replied: “I am Sufyaan Thauri.” He then said: “Had you not been the only scholar of your calibre, I would not have revealed something which is my secret. My father and I went for Hajj. Enroute my father fell ill. While I was doing my utmost to treat him, he suddenly passed away, and his whole face turned black.” This distressed me greatly (and seeing that this was a bad sign) I said, “Inna lillah.”

I then covered his face with a cloth. Soon thereafter my eyes closed and I fell off to sleep in this sorrow. In a vision I saw a man approaching. I had never seen a man as handsome as he, clothes as clean as his, and a fragrance as sweet as his. He approached in haste, removed the cloth from my father’s face, and put his hand over his face. Immediately the face turned white. As he was about to depart, I held onto him and asked, “May Allah Ta’ala have mercy upon you. Please tell me who are you, for Allah Ta’ala has shown mercy to my father in his great need because of you.” He replied: “Do you not recognize me? I am Muhammad (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam), the son of Abdullah, the person of the Qur’an. Your father was a very great sinner, but he always recited durood upon me abundantly. Hence, when through his sins, evils descended on him, I saw his great need and hastened to assist him, as I do for all those who recite durood upon me.” (Fazaail Durood)

A Means for Rasulullah (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam) Becoming Happy https://ihyaauddeen.co.za/?p=5588 https://ihyaauddeen.co.za/?p=5588#respond Thu, 21 Nov 2013 04:15:52 +0000 http://ihyaauddeen.co.za/?p=5588 dome-pic2

Hazrat Abu Talhah (radhiyallahu ‘anhu) relates: One morning, Nabi (sallallahu ‘alaihi wasallam) came to us in a state of happiness, to such an extent that the joy and happiness beamed from his blessed countenance. The Sahabaah (radhiyallahu ‘anhum) enquired, “O Rasulullah (sallallahu ‘alaihi wasallam), we notice that you are very pleased today. The happiness can be clearly seen on your blessed face.” Rasulullah (sallallahu ‘alaihi wasallam) replied, “Yes indeed, a messenger came to me from my Lord with the following message, ‘Whosoever from amongst your Ummah recites Durood upon you once, Allah Ta‘ala will record for him ten righteous deeds, erase and pardon ten sins, raise his rank in Jannah by ten stages and reply to his Durood in a similar manner (i.e. Allah Ta‘ala will send ten mercies and blessings upon him).’”

Adding ‘wasallam’ in the Durood

Hazrat Ebrahim Nasafi (rahimahullah) relates:

On one occasion, I had seen Rasulullah (sallallahu ‘alaihi wasallam) in a dream. In the dream, I was unsure as to whether he was displeased with me. I stretched forth my hand, took hold of the hands of Rasulullah (sallallahu ‘alaihi wasallam) and kissed them.

I asked in great anxiety, “O Rasulullah (sallallahu ‘alaihi wasallam), I am indeed one of the servants of Hadith. I belong to the Ahlus Sunnah (those who follow your way) and I am a traveller from afar. Have compassion on me. Have I displeased you?” Rasulullah (sallallahu ‘alaihi wasallam) smiled and said, “Whenever you recite Salaat, why do you not recite Salaam?” Thereafter, it became a fixed habit of mine to recite ‘wasallam’ as well. Reciting Durood with Love and Enthusiasm https://ihyaauddeen.co.za/?p=5313 https://ihyaauddeen.co.za/?p=5313#respond Thu, 24 Oct 2013 14:04:12 +0000 http://ihyaauddeen.co.za/?p=5313 dome-pic2عن أبي هُرَيرَةَ رَضِيَ اللهُ عَنه أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَليهِ وَسَلَّمَ قَالَ مَن صَلَّى عَلَيَّ وَاحِدَةً صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيهِ عَشرًا وَمَن صَلَّى عَلَيَّ عَشرًا صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيهِ مِائَةً وَ مَن صَلَّى عَلَيَّ مِائَةً صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيهِ اَلْفًا وَ مَنْ زَادَ صَبَابَةً وَ شَوقًا كُنتُ لَه شَفِيعًا وَ شَهِيدًا يَومَ القِيَامَة (القول البديع ص 236: قال: اخرجه ابو موسى المديني بسند قال الشيخ مغلطاى لا بأس به)

Hadhrat Abu Hurayrah (Radhiallahu Anhu) reports that Rasulullah (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam) said: “Whoever recites durood on me once, on him Allah Ta’ala sends ten blessings. Whosoever recites durood on me ten times, on him Allah Ta’ala sends one hundred blessings. Whosoever recites durood on me one hundred times, on him Allah Ta’ala sends thousand blessings. And whoever recites more with love and enthusiasm, I will intercede and testify for him on the day of Qiyaamah.

Taking Precaution in Writing Durood

Hazrat Abu Sulaimaan, Muhammad bin Husain (rahimahullah), says:

Amongst my neighbours, there was a man by the name of Fadhl who would engross himself in performing nafl salaah and observing nafl fasts.

He once mentioned to me, “I used to copy the Ahaadith of Rasulullah (sallallahu ‘alaihi wasallam), but was never in the habit of writing the Durood after the name of Rasulullah (sallallahu ‘alaihi wasallam). Rasulullah (sallallahu ‘alaihi wasallam) then appeared in a dream and told me, ‘Why is it that you fail to recite Durood upon me whenever my name is spoken or written?’”

Fadhl then took great precaution in reciting Durood upon Rasulullah (sallallahu ‘alaihi wasallam) whenever the name of Rasulullah (sallallahu ‘alaihi wasallam) was mentioned. A few days later, he saw Rasulullah (sallallahu ‘alaihi wasallam) again in a vision and Rasulullah (sallallahu ‘alaihi wasallam) told him, “Continue reciting Durood upon me whenever my name is mentioned for verily your Durood reaches me.” (Al-Targheeb Wat-Tarheeb Liqiwaamis Sunnah 2/328, Al-Qowlul Badee’ Pg. 487)

Hadhrat Abu Dardaa (Radhiallahu Anhu) reports that Rasulullah (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam) said: “The one who recites durood upon me ten times in the morning, and ten times in the evening, will receive my intercession on the day of Qiyaamah.

Durood Coming to One’s Assistance at the Time of Need

Sheikh Shibli (Rahmatullahi Alaihi) once narrated the following: “One of my neighbours passed away. It was not long thereafter that I happened to see him in a dream and asked him, “How did the reckoning fare with you?” He replied, “O Shibli, indeed I underwent a great ordeal. Even at the time of the interrogation by the angels Munkar and Nakeer, I experienced hardship and difficulty. I then thought to myself, “O Allah, why am I suffering such hardship? Did I not die on Islam?” I then heard a voice from the unseen saying, “This difficulty is all due to the misuse of your tongue in this world.” When I was about to be punished, a handsome person in the most beautiful form came to my rescue and safeguarded me from the angels of punishment. The most beautiful fragrance emanated from him. He dictated to me the answers of the angels and as he dictated I answered the questions. Thereupon I asked him, ‘May Allah Ta’ala shower His mercy upon you. Who are you?’ He replied, ‘I am that person who had been created from the great number of durood that you had recited upon Rasulullah (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam). I have been commanded to hasten to your assistance at the time you are in need.’” (Fazaail Durood)

The Durood of Imaam Shaafi’ee (Rahmatullahi Alaihi)

Ibn Bunaan Asbahaani (Rahmatullahi Alaihi) says: “I once saw Rasulullah (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam) in a dream and asked him, ‘O Rasulullah (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam), has any special honour been granted to Muhammad ibn Idrees Shaafi’ee (Rahmatullahi Alaihi), who is the son of your ‘uncle’? (‘Uncle’ has been mentioned because Imaam Shaafi’ee’s ancestory meets Rasulullah (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam)’s ancestory at Abd Yazeed ibn Hishaam. Hishaam was the great grandfather of Rasulullah (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam)). Rasulullah (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam) replied: “Yes indeed. I have supplicated to Allah Ta’ala that he be saved from the reckoning on the day of Qiyaamah.” I then asked, “O Rasulullah (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam), on account of which deed did he become worthy of such a favour?” Rasulullah (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam) replied: “It is because he has recited such a durood upon me that no one else had ever recited.” I then enquired: “O Rasulullah (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam), what is that durood?” Rasulullah (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam) replied:

Hadhrat Abdullah ibn Amr ibnul Aas (Radhiallahu Anhuma) reports that he heard Rasulullah (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam) saying: “Whenever you hear the muazzin calling out the azaan, then repeat the words of the azaan after him, thereafter recite durood upon me. Verily whoever recites durood upon me once, Allah Ta’ala sends ten blessings on him. Then supplicate to Allah Ta’ala to bless me with the honour of ‘waseela’ which is a lofty position and rank in Jannah which will be exclusively granted to one of Allah Ta’ala’s special servants. I earnestly hope that I am granted that position. And whoever supplicates to Allah Ta’ala to grant me the ‘waseela’, my intercession becomes compulsory for him.

In a hadith reported in Bukhaari it is mentioned, “Whoever hears the azaan and recites the following duaa, my intercession becomes compulsory for him:

Hadhrat Abu Darda (Radhiallahu Anhu) reports that when Rasulullah (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam) would hear the azaan, he would recite the following duaa:

اللَّهُمَّ رَبَّ هَذِهِ الدَّعْوَةِ التَّامَّةِ وَالصَّلَاةِ الْقَائِمَةِ  صَلِّ عَلَى مُحَمَّدٍ وَ آتِهِ سُؤلَهُ يَومَ القِيَامَة

O Allah, the Lord of this perfect call and the established salaah; bestow blessings upon Hadhrat Muhammad (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam) and grant him that which he beseeched You on the day of Qiyaamah.

Forgiven through the Blessing of Durood

A certain pious person narrated the following incident:

I once saw the person who was known by the title ‘Mistah’ in a dream after he passed away. He was a sinful person during his lifetime. On seeing him in the dream, I asked him, “How did Allah Ta’ala deal with you?” He replied, “Allah Ta’ala forgave me”. I asked him, “On account of which action?” He answered, “On one occasion, I asked a certain Muhaddith to recite a Hadith to me with its chain to Rasulullah (sallallahu ‘alaihi wasallam). On taking the blessed name of Rasulullah (sallallahu ‘alaihi wasallam), the Muhaddith recited Durood upon him. I also recited Durood upon Rasulullah (sallallahu ‘alaihi wasallam) in a loud tone. Hearing me recite Durood aloud, all the people who were present in the gathering also recited Durood upon Rasulullah (sallallahu ‘alaihi wasallam). At that moment, Allah Ta’ala forgave the sins of each and every one of us.” (Al-Qowlul Badee’ Pg. 259)

Repaying our benefactor

Hafiz Izzuddeen bin Abdus Salaam (Rahmatullahi Alaihi) says, “Our durood upon Rasulullah (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam) is by no means to be considered as an intercession by us on his behalf, because we are not in any way fit to intercede on his behalf. In reality, Allah Ta’ala has ordered us to repay our benefactor for some of his favours and generosity. No other benefactor has been more generous to us than Nabi (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam). Due to the fact that we are unable to repay him for his generosity, Allah Ta’ala has seen our weakness and shown us the correct manner of repaying Rasulullah (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam), and that is by reciting durood upon him. Since we are unable to even fulfil this command of Allah Ta’ala in the correct manner, we beg of Allah Ta’ala to convey durood upon Hadhrat Rasulullah (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam) according to His (Allah Ta’ala’s) majesty and exalted position.” (Fazaail Durood)

Please do gift it to me.’ He said, “On one occasion we asked Rasulullah (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam), ‘O Rasulullah (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam), what is the manner of reciting salaat upon you and your family, for indeed Allah Ta’ala has taught us (through you) how to recite salaam upon you. Rasulullah (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam) replied: “Say, ‘O Allah, shower Your mercy upon Hadhrat Muhammad (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam) and the family of Hadhrat Muhammad (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam), as You showered Your mercy upon Hadhrat Ebrahim (Alaihis Salaam) and the family of Hadhrat Ebrahim (Alaihis Salaam). Indeed You are praiseworthy and most glorious. O Allah, shower Your blessings upon Hadhrat Muhammad (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam) and the family of Hadhrat Muhammad (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam), as You showered Your blessings upon Hadhrat Ebrahim (Alaihis Salaam) and the family of Hadhrat Ebrahim (Alaihis Salaam). Indeed You are praiseworthy and most glorious.”

Bounties Due to Reciting Abundant Durood

When Abul Abbaas Ahmad bin Mansoor (Rahmatullahi Alaihi) passed away, a person from Shiraaz saw him in a dream. He saw him standing in the mihraab of the Jaami Musjid of Shiraaz, dressed in beautiful clothes with a crown full of diamonds and pearls on his head. When Abul Abbaas was asked regarding these bounties he had been bestowed with, he replied, “Allah Ta’ala has pardoned me, forgiven my sins, afforded me great honour, and crowned me with this crown on account of the abundant durood I used to recite upon Rasulullah (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam).” (Fazaail Durood)

Objective of Reciting Durood

Allamah Zarqaani (Rahmatullahi Alaihi) writes in “Sharhul Mawaahib” that the main aim and purpose for reciting Durood  should be to acquire the pleasure of Allah Ta’ala and obey His command (in the Quran regarding reciting durood upon Rasulullah (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam)), as well as fulfilling the rights we owe to Rasulullah (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam). The Most Virtuous of Praises and Durood https://ihyaauddeen.co.za/?p=4482 https://ihyaauddeen.co.za/?p=4482#respond Thu, 11 Apr 2013 14:29:04 +0000 http://ihyaauddeen.co.za/?p=4482 dome picاَللّهُمَّ لَكَ الحَمْدُ كَمَا أَنْتَ اَهْلُهُ فَصَلِّ عَلَى مُحَمَّدٍ كَمَا أَنْتَ اَهْلُهُ وَافْعَلْ بِنَا مَا أَنْتَ اَهْلُهُ فَاِنَّكَ أَنْتَ اَهْلُ التَقْوَى وَ اَهْلُ المغْفِرَة (فضائل الدرود)

O Allah, All praise be to You as You are worthy. Bestow blessings upon Hadhrat Muhammad (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam) according to Your majesty, and You deal with us according to Your exalted position, for verily You alone are worthy of being feared and You are the only one who can forgive our sins.

Allamah ibn Mushtahir (Rahmatullahi Alaihi) says: “Whosoever desires to praise Allah Ta’ala in such a manner that is more virtuous than any other praise recited by any of the creation, the former as well as the latter, such a praise that is more virtuous than the praises sung by the angels in the heavens and those dwelling on earth, and whosoever desires to recite such a durood upon Rasulullah (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam) which has more virtue than any other durood recited by anyone else, then he should recite the above-mentioned duaa. (Fazaail Durood)

The Name of Hazrat Nabi (sallallahu ‘alaihi wasallam) in the Taurah

Allaamah Sakhaawi (rahimahullah) relates:

There was once an evil person from amongst the Bani Israa’eel. When he passed away, the people did not afford him any respect and merely left his body on the ground. Allah Ta’ala then revealed to Moosa (‘alaihis salaam), “O Moosa, wash him and perform his janaazah, for I have forgiven his sins and pardoned him.”

Moosa (‘alaihis salaam) asked, “O Allah Ta’ala, what is the reason for this?” Allah Ta’ala replied, “Once, his sight fell on the name of Muhammad (sallallahu ‘alaihi wasallam) in the Taurah and he recited Durood upon Nabi (sallallahu ‘alaihi wasallam). On account of this action, I have forgiven him.”  (Al-Qowlul Badee’ Pg. 260)
