Gratitude https://ihyaauddeen.co.za/?p=3922 https://ihyaauddeen.co.za/?p=3922#respond Wed, 23 Jan 2013 08:00:50 +0000 http://ihyaauddeen.co.za/?p=3922 gratitudeHadhrat Luqmaan (Alayhis Salaam) was an Abyssinian slave who worked for his master in an orchard. Once his master came to the orchard and asked for a cucumber. When the cucumber was brought, peeled and sliced, the master gave the first piece to Hadhrat Luqmaan (Alayhis Salaam) to eat. He placed it in his mouth and began eating it with great relish. When the master observed the degree of relish with which Hadhrat Luqmaan (Alayhis Salaam) ate the cucumber, he assumed that it must be very tasty. Hence he also put a piece into his mouth.

To his utter amazement, he found the cucumber to be extremely bitter. He immediately spat it out and addressed Hadhrat luqmaan (Alayhis Salaam) saying: “O Luqmaan, how were you able to endure eating such a bitter cucumber with such relish without showing any sign of dissatisfaction?” Hadhrat Luqmaan (Alayhis Salaam) replied: “The hand that showers innumerable favours upon me all the time, if perchance I receive something bitter from it occasionally, how ungrateful would I be if I were to express dissatisfaction and unhappiness over it.”

The Best and Worst Organs https://ihyaauddeen.co.za/?p=3898 https://ihyaauddeen.co.za/?p=3898#respond Wed, 16 Jan 2013 04:37:10 +0000 http://ihyaauddeen.co.za/?p=3898 heartHadhrat Luqmaan (Alayhis Salaam), was an Abyssinian slave who by trade was a carpenter. Once while he was in the presence of his master, his master instructed him to slaughter a sheep and bring the two best organs to him. Hadhrat Luqmaan (Alayhis Salaam) slaughtered the sheep and brought the heart and the tongue to his master.

On another occasion, his master instructed him to slaughter a sheep and bring the two most despicable organs to him. This time also, Hadhrat Luqmaan (Alayhis Salaam) came forth with the same two organs, viz. the heart and the tongue. In amazement his master exclaimed: “On both occasions I notice that you have brought the very same organs to me. How is it that the heart and the tongue can be the best organs as well as the most despicable organs?”

Hadhrat Luqmaan (Alayhis Salaam) replied: “O my master, if the heart and the tongue are kept pure, then there can be no organ in the body that is more valuable and better than it. However if they are misused and polluted, then there can be no organ in the human body that is more despicable than it.” (Tafseer ibn Katheer- Surah Luqmaan)
