The reliability of the book “Revealing the True Facts of Yazeed ~ The Incident of KARBALA and the Events that Followed”

Q: Mufti Saheb, I have heard that some of the narrations in the book "Revealing the True Facts of Yazeed ~ The Incident of KARBALA and the Events that Followed" are quoted through a weak, shia narrator, by the name of Abu Mikhnaf. Is this correct? If it is, then can we quote from such narrators?

A: It pleases us to see that people are querying regarding the reliability of the kitaab, as our Deen teaches us to be cautious and particular regarding the sources through which we acquire our Deen. Furthermore, this gives us the opportunity to once more review the kitaab and ascertain whether the queries and concerns raised are valid.

Before discussing the status of the historian, Abu Mikhnaf, Lut bin Yahya, I regard it imperative to explain, as a prelude, the various types of ‘ilm in Deen as well as the Ahaadith and narrations that can be used for establishing each type of ‘ilm. This is vitally important in order for us to be able to understand each point in its proper perspective.

Allah Ta’ala is the Guardian of His Deen and He alone will protect it till the last day. As a means, in every era Allah Ta’ala used the
Ulama-e-Haq and His true servants to dispel any confusion and deviation from any quarter. Thus over the centuries despite the many attacks on Deen by the deviant groups, by means of the tireless efforts of the Ulama-e-Haq Allah Ta’ala has preserved the Deen in its pristine purity. This will Insha Allah continue till Qiyaamah.

This treatise has been prepared to dispel the myth that the mazahib of the four Imaams of fiqh (viz. Imaam Abu Hanifa, Imaam Maalik, Imaam Shafi’ee and Imaam Ahmad bin Hambal [Rahimahumullah]) are not based on sound proofs from the sources of Shari’ah, viz the Qur’an, Sunnah, Ijma’ and Qiyaas, in particular with regard to the Salaah of females.

The fitnah of ghair muqallidiyyat (abandoning the following of a mazhab) is an extremely dangerous and overwhelming fitnah of contemporary times. Generally, simple-minded youngsters as well as unwary Muslims, who are uneducated of the basics of Deen, but have the desire for practice, fall prey to this fitnah. The picture painted by those who abandon following of mazhabs seems very attractive and appealing to the layman as he is invited towards following the Qur’aan and Hadith directly opposed to following an Imaam. Furthermore, a calculated effort is being made to cause the Ummah to abandon the safe path which the Ummah treaded upon for many centuries. As a result, doubts and suspicions are instilled regarding the great Imaams, the pious of the past and at times even regarding the illustrious Sahaabah (Radhiyallahu Anhum).
