This entry is part 19 of 46 in the series Virtues of Durood and Salaam

Hadhrat Abu Burdah (Radhiallahu Anhu) reports that Rasulullah (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam) said: “Whoever from my Ummah conveys one durood upon me sincerely from his heart, Allah Ta’ala will bless him with ten mercies, elevate his status in the Hereafter by ten ranks, record ten righteous deeds in his favour and expiate ten of his sins.

Reciting Abundant Durood Daily

Hadhrat Abul Fadl Khomaani (Rahmatullahi Alaihi) says, “A man from Khurasaan once came to me and said, ‘While I was in Madina Munawwarah I saw Rasulullah (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam) in a dream and he said to me, ‘When you go to Hamdaan, convey my salaams to Abul Fadl Zeeruk.’ I then asked Rasulullah (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam), ‘O Rasulullah (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam), what is the reason for this?’ Rasulullah (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam) replied, ‘It is because of the fact that daily he recites these words of durood upon me one hundred times or more.’

O Allah, shower salaat upon Hadhrat Muhammad (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam), the unlettered Nabi; and upon the family of Hadhrat Muhammad (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam). May Allah Ta’ala reward Hadhrat Muhammad (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam) on our behalf on our behalf such a reward that he is worthy of.

Abul Fadl (Rahmaullahi Alaihi) further states, “The man swore by Allah Ta’ala that he never knew me before the time that Rasulullah (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam) gave him the message. I then wanted to give him some grain, but he refused to accept it saying, ‘It is not my intention to sell the message that Rasulullah (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam) gave me.’ The man then departed and I never saw him again. dome-pic2عن أبي هُرَيرَةَ رَضِيَ اللهُ عَنه أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَليهِ وَسَلَّمَ قَالَ مَن صَلَّى عَلَيَّ وَاحِدَةً صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيهِ عَشرًا وَمَن صَلَّى عَلَيَّ عَشرًا صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيهِ مِائَةً وَ مَن صَلَّى عَلَيَّ مِائَةً صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيهِ اَلْفًا وَ مَنْ زَادَ صَبَابَةً وَ شَوقًا كُنتُ لَه شَفِيعًا وَ شَهِيدًا يَومَ القِيَامَة (القول البديع ص 236: قال: اخرجه ابو موسى المديني بسند قال الشيخ مغلطاى لا بأس به)

Hadhrat Abu Hurayrah (Radhiallahu Anhu) reports that Rasulullah (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam) said: “Whoever recites durood on me once, on him Allah Ta’ala sends ten blessings. Whosoever recites durood on me ten times, on him Allah Ta’ala sends one hundred blessings. Whosoever recites durood on me one hundred times, on him Allah Ta’ala sends thousand blessings. And whoever recites more with love and enthusiasm, I will intercede and testify for him on the day of Qiyaamah.

Recite Durood Abundantly

Abu Sulaymaan Muhammad ibnul Husain Hiraani (Rahmatullahi Alaihi) says, “Amongst my neighbours was a man by the name of Fadhl, who would engross himself in performing nafl salaah and observing nafl fasts. He once mentioned to me, “I used to copy the Ahaadith of Rasulullah (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam), but was never in the habit of writing the durood after the name of Rasulullah (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam). Rasulullah (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam) then appeared in a dream and told me, “Why is it that you fail to recite durood upon me whenever my name is spoken or written?” Fadhl then took great precaution in reciting durood upon Rasulullah (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam) whenever the name of Rasulullah (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam) was mentioned. A few days later, he saw Rasulullah (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam) again in a vision and Rasulullah (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam) told him, “Continue reciting durood upon me whenever my name is mentioned for verily your durood reaches me.” (Fazaail Durood)

Hadhrat Abu Humaid or Abu Usaid (Radhiallahu Anhuma) reports that Rasulullah (Sallalahu Alaihi Wasallam) said: “Whenever anyone enters the musjid , he should recite durood upon Rasulullah (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam) and then recite the following duaa:

اَلَّلهُمَّ افْتَح لى أبْوَابَ رَحمَتِك

O Allah, open for me the doors of Your mercy.

And When he leaves the musjid, he should recite durood upon Rasulullah (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam) and then recite the following duaa:

اَللَّهُمَّ إِنِّى أَسْأَلُكَ مِن فَضْلِكَ

O Allah, I ask You for Your bounties.

Hadhrat Faatima (Radhiallahu Anha) reports that when Rasulullah (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam) would enter the Musjid, he would recite the following duaa:

 بسم الله والسلام على رسول الله اللهم اغْفِرْ لِي ذُنُوبِي وَافْتَحْ لِي أَبْوَابَ رَحْمَتِكَ

In the name of Allah Ta’ala and salaam upon Rasulullah (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam).  O Allah, forgive my sins and open for me the doors of Your mercy.

And when he used to leave the Musjid, he would recite the following duaa:

بسم الله والسلام على رسول الله اللهم اغْفِرْ لِي ذُنُوبِي وَافْتَحْ لِي أَبْوَابَ فَضْلِكَ

In the name of Allah Ta’ala and salaam upon Rasulullah (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam).  O Allah, forgive my sins and open for me the doors of Your bounties.

Assistance at the Bridge over Jahannum

Abdullah bin Samurah (Radhiallahu Anhu) reports that Rasulullah (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam) once emerged from his home and said, “Last night I had seen a very strange vision. A man was crossing the siraat (the bridge over Jahannam) and had such difficulty in crossing that at times he dragged himself along, at times he was crawling on his knees, and at times he was being obstructed by something. Suddenly the durood that he had recited upon me had reached him, and this assisted him in standing up and crossing the bridge. (Fazaail Durood)

Reciting Durood Morning and Evening

Hadhrat Abu Dardaa (Radhiallahu Anhu) reports that Rasulullah (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam) said: “The one who recites durood upon me ten times in the morning, and ten times in the evening, will receive my intercession on the day of Qiyaamah.

Durood Coming to One’s Assistance at the Time of Need

Sheikh Shibli (Rahmatullahi Alaihi) once narrated the following: “One of my neighbours passed away. It was not long thereafter that I happened to see him in a dream and asked him, “How did the reckoning fare with you?” He replied, “O Shibli, indeed I underwent a great ordeal. Even at the time of the interrogation by the angels Munkar and Nakeer, I experienced hardship and difficulty. I then thought to myself, “O Allah, why am I suffering such hardship? Did I not die on Islam?” I then heard a voice from the unseen saying, “This difficulty is all due to the misuse of your tongue in this world.” When I was about to be punished, a handsome person in the most beautiful form came to my rescue and safeguarded me from the angels of punishment. The most beautiful fragrance emanated from him. He dictated to me the answers of the angels and as he dictated I answered the questions. Thereupon I asked him, ‘May Allah Ta’ala shower His mercy upon you. Who are you?’ He replied, ‘I am that person who had been created from the great number of durood that you had recited upon Rasulullah (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam). I have been commanded to hasten to your assistance at the time you are in need.’” (Fazaail Durood)

The Durood of Imaam Shaafi’ee (Rahmatullahi Alaihi)

Ibn Bunaan Asbahaani (Rahmatullahi Alaihi) says: “I once saw Rasulullah (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam) in a dream and asked him, ‘O Rasulullah (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam), has any special honour been granted to Muhammad ibn Idrees Shaafi’ee (Rahmatullahi Alaihi), who is the son of your ‘uncle’? (‘Uncle’ has been mentioned because Imaam Shaafi’ee’s ancestory meets Rasulullah (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam)’s ancestory at Abd Yazeed ibn Hishaam. Hishaam was the great grandfather of Rasulullah (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam)). Rasulullah (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam) replied: “Yes indeed. I have supplicated to Allah Ta’ala that he be saved from the reckoning on the day of Qiyaamah.” I then asked, “O Rasulullah (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam), on account of which deed did he become worthy of such a favour?” Rasulullah (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam) replied: “It is because he has recited such a durood upon me that no one else had ever recited.” I then enquired: “O Rasulullah (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam), what is that durood?” Rasulullah (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam) replied:

O Allah Ta’ala! Bestow special mercy upon Hadhrat Muhammad (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam) equivalent to the number of times that all those remember him, and bestow special mercy upon Hadhrat Muhammad (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam) equivalent to the number of times that all those forget to remember him. (Fazaail Durood)

Continuously Recite Durood

A man once saw a person in his dream in the most horrific and dreadful form. Upon enquiry from the person as to who he was the man replied, “I am your evil deeds.” The man then asked, “And how can I be saved from you?” He replied, “By continuously reciting abundant durood upon Hadhrat Muhammad (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam). Be in the Shade of the Throne of Allah Ta’ala

Allamah Sakhaawi (Rahmatullahi Alaihi) quotes this hadith that Rasulullah (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam) said: “On the day of Qiyaamah when there shall be no shade besides the shade of the throne of Allah Ta’ala, three people shall be in the shade of Allah Ta’ala’s throne.

1)      He who repelled the misfortune of the afflicted ones.

2)      He who revived my sunnah.

3)      He who recited abundant durood on me. (Fazaail Durood)
